DIY IndieSlider...

Bummer!! I'm buying mine today.

What if instead of using stoppers to stop the carriage from sliding off, you screwed in shoes as well. I've been thinking about putting brackets with shoes on both ends and mounting two LED lights (LitePanels). So often I'm filming Receptions in the dark, and though I light the subject, the left and right parts of the screen are still dark.

just got mine
i actually purchased the last carriage they had, but the size was a bit wider at 16-60-15
this is actually better i think as it gives smoother movement

i noticed my 1250mm rail came with predrilled holes in it, is it ok for to tap a hole that's slightly bigger than 5/16
my 5/16 drill bit does not touch the edges when I poke it through the holes, but the 3/8 tap will not go through and it looks like i can tap it
please help

I have a question I am hoping someone can answer:

I have a glidetrack hd compact and am now pondering upgrading to something between 2 and 4 metres for a specific project. I was wondering whether the cartridge on the hd compact is compatible with these rails from igus: WS-16-60 Drylin 'W' rail?

thanks!

For safety reasons I would drill and tab 2 holes in the quickchange plate.
Mine is of steel and will hold the treads much better than the softer aluminum of the slider.

Yes, just go ahead & tap away!

I believe the WS-16-60 are the exact same rail as the Glidetrack HD system. I don't have a glidetrack to compare, but I'm 99.98 percent sure.

This is a great idea if you use a quickchange plate. I just tapped mine and have been using it for over a year and a half without any problems what-so-ever. It's been on & off the tripod a good 90 to 150 times so far.

Welcome to DVXUser!

Can't wait to see what you come up with! First, you'll be so glad you built a slider... it is an incredibly useful camera support device.

Second, I wish I was more electronics-savvy that I really am when it comes to building... so I'm a bit jealous, yet highly interested in what you might come up with!

Last, I wonder if ZazaCast had any clue how much this thread would explode when he first posted it!

Thanks everyone for the kind welcome. I see I have to set my profile to automatically subscribe to threads I post in. :dankk2:

I don't consider myself to be very mechanically inclined, but tech wise I usually have some good ideas. Then I go to the experts to implement them! LOL. This seems a simple project. I'm getting older now (41) so maybe my engineering skills are getting better as I acquire wisdom. It's definitely in my genes. My dad and uncles were pretty ilustrious inventors and engineers. All 3 were pilots. I'm pretty sure my brains came from my mother's side though (LOL), so I'm not promising anything brilliant! :D

Hello Speedracerlo,
Could you give us the part number of the carriage you ordered?
What is different in this carriage?
Thanks.

the WW-16-60-15 is about 2 inches longer than the WW-16-60-10
i think it provides a smoother movement because of a slightly wider weight distribution

YEAH BABY! Mine arrived today.

Got the biggest combo they offer - WK 20-80-20-01.

Having a 25+ pound rig, this is just perfect.

Need to do some drill/tab and some further improvements than I post some pics.

I am thinking of buying this set up as well. I use 2 tripods for support and have a 15 lb camera setup. How much is this combo? What length rail did you buy? I want to buy a 5 feet rail for more travel. Anyone have the long rail and if so how is it working out?

Mine is 120 cm ( 47.24 inch).

Price was 132 Euros (incl vat).

5 feet with 2 tripods should be no problem, it´s rock solid.

Can anyone help me figure out how to get it onto my Manfrotto MVB525 with a 503 Fluid Head? I can't even figure out how to get the head off.

hey I'm wondering whether its possible to connect multiple tracks? The reason I am asiing is I am looking to setup a pretty long track, but would prefer not to carry around a huge track... it would be nice if I could buy 4 or 5 1 meter tracks and then just put them together. Any ideas?'

cheers!

Be glad to help if I can....but I couldn't find a "MVB525" on the Manfrotto web site? There's usually a set screw on the tripod (below where the head screws on). If you loosen those up, you should be able to just unscrew the head from the tripod reveling a 3/8 screw.

You would then just screw it tapped rail on that.

Hey Z,

Here's the link. I'll try to tool around with it tonight when I can and see what's up.

I've done that but you have to make the subsequent rails progressively shorter.
I call mine the Portadolly XLDL because I've only used it to create psuedo wrap-around moves.

The stacking rail slider is my PP concept.

Have a look...
