DIY IndieSlider...

Nice... looks like some slide/pans going on there. It takes some time to get the feel. You might want to start with just some straight slides & dollies to get the feel of the slider first. Took me a bit to get used to also...

I hope you enjoy the slide! Thanks for posting.

This one may be intresting for you slider guys.

I made up a dolly with a slider module.
The point is, that the slider swivels, so you can use it vertical - like a lift - when there is not enough room for a crane.

Schould be pretty easy adoptable to your constructions.
Or did someone else already came up with that? I did not read the whole 77 pages here.

WOW... that thing looks great! There have been some posts on vertical slides, but nothing that's easy to do. Really nice design work on the GPCP. Thanks for posting.

Would this slider, or the wider track & carriage, support an average RED rig configuration?

I believe this would support it, but I'd go wider with a longer carriage. I might even think about getting the the single sided track so you can it as wide as you'd like.

Check out the igus site for their "Round Single Rail" & glide blocks (halfway down this page: http://www.igus.com/show_dw.asp)

You could mount the single rail on each side of a width of 3/4 plywood (or something) and create your own carriage to ride on the glide blocks.

I just received the parts from IGUS. I got the standard 1000mm as defined on page one of this thread. After putting my EX1 with rails and M2 Adapter on it, I see that it is not stable enough. I then tried the monopod on each end, but also found that a little too shaky (literally). So, I'm wondering if anyone has had success mounting a large tripod quick disconnect to the bottom of the rail system, so you can just quickly mount it to a heavy-duty tripod. (In this case, I have a heavy duty bogen tripod with a 516 head.) It seems like the wide quick disconnect would add a lot of stability, over the single little threaded connection in the center hole.

Anybody, anybody, Bueller?

What part of it is shaky? Even with a bitty GH1 on it, I found it shaky front-to-back (In other words, the direction perpendicular to the track), until I attached some of those big heavy rubber bricks.

Check out my pics of the slider with tripods mounted on both sides of the slider. I made it for use with a heavier JVC camera. It works great. I just keep the quick disconnect plates screwed to the slider at all times. Very stable.

What tripod are you using? I use an old Bogen 3046 and have never had a problem. Is the EX1 a heavy camera? Everything is fine with my DVX100b w/M2 and FF. Please see the slider photoalbum:

Hi guys,

Would anyone be willing to sell me their Zaza slider?

I'm in Australia and they are not in stock here...

Thanks!

Hi ZaZa. I initially put the whole rig, which weighs in over 10 pounds, on a light-weight Manfrotto 3001 set of legs, but the legs and center post actually flexed as the rig moved down the track. So, the slider does fine under the weight, but just not this set of sticks. So, what I'm planning to do is bolt the slider to the quick-release from my monster sticks (I think it's a manfrotto 3068), and just pop it onto the sticks when needed. I know these sticks won't flex. You could stand on this thing. But, I'm hoping the 6 inch wide quick release will give it a whole lot more stability than the light sticks mounting bolt.

For ease of use, and quick setup, I'm hoping this will be the perfect configuration. I really didn't like the monopods on each side, setup. the cheap tripod at each end configuration, seems like it would be less than efficient, because then it's likely that I'll be toting three tripods to a job.

I'll let you know how it works out. I'm shooting a film with it over the next couple weekends.

Regards,

Daniel

i've tried to find it here too but the local igus guys are charging heaps for the parts to be brought in. Let us know if you find a solution since even the euro guys are getting theirs for cheap.

Maybe I can help you guys by buying the parts and shipping them to you???
Let me know if you're interested....I'd be willing to help out if I can.

Just build myself a lightweight ZazaSlider.
It's for a GH1 and I want something super portable so I went for the smaller 40mm track and made it 76cm long. Works really well. Can't wait to use it in action.

I had difficulty finding the right kind of tap, so I've gone for a slightly different option. I just use the pre-drilled hole, put the 1/4inch tripod bold through it and use a 1/4inch nut to secure it. Seems to work well and in some ways easier to put on than having to screwn the whole track.

Works fine for this fairly short track and lightweight camera. I can also put the tripod at one end and a monopod at the other.

I've also added a bit of wood at either end for resting it on the floor.

One question - what's the current best advice on putting something on the rails. I've seen vaseline and pledge mentioned. Do they help? I'd have thought vaseline would be too thick and sticky?

I'd try the Pledge route first...although, I haven't had the need to lub my track at all yet. It slides as smooth as the first day I built it.

When you can, please post a few pictures of your slider so we can all see it.
Thanks!

that would be freakin awesome man. I know it's not much but I'll throw in $20 for the effort.

the only problem i see is a way to ship the rails over to here at a reasonable price.
