DIY Canon HDSLR Remote Start/Stop for $10

I messaged NextWaveG asking about that specific remote in the video - Yuogno, or whatever the ridiculous name was - and where I could buy it. I haven't heard anything back yet.

Pg 133 of the manual, you have to put the remote in <2> to control movie shooting, The other setting will only shoot stills.

It's the same on the 7D.

Hmmm...I don't see any on ebay either. They might be sold out right now. I'm only aware of the video start/stop working the the Canon RC6 remote (or the Yongnuo version).

I got a cheapie remote on eBay, but you have to get the one with several buttons, one of them being "2 S" That works fine for video. I tried a cheap 1-button remote, but it only triggered stills, regardless of your timer setting.

Chance you could give us a link?.

Those things come and go quickly, I'd suggest you just search with the usual terms (t2i remote, 550d remote, etc). Look for the remote with lots of buttons vs. one button.

Both cheapie remotes I've purchased came from Asia, but they got here quickly.

Mine came with a static-cling type "LCD Protector" - I'm shooting a project that will be cropped to 2.35:1 so that's what I was actually searching for (550d LCD Protector) so I can mark crop lines with a sharpie. But the remote triggers video just fine. (The "protector" is just a generic sheet of cling that you trim to fit your specific screen).

I do, too, but I noticed the picture on that eBay link showed the same brand as was in the DIY video. However, it says RC5, not RC6.

I think I might buy it just to see if it works. It's $2...

All the links you've posted are to remotes that do not have a 2s function, so they won't work for video.

As I quoted from the manual, you need to put the remote into "2". If you don't have a "2" switch or button, then it won't work for video.

Be careful with Yongnuo remotes. I bought one back in the summer and used it maybe 3 times and the sucker died on me! I got it on Ebay for about $22 with free shipping from Hong Kong too! LOL! It worked good while it lasted though.
