Dissonance - a j.r. hudson reel

I'm sure John's neck-deep in editing. We just finished shooting on Saturday night, which was a wacky day -- we musta done 15 setups in the last hour, racing the sun, including doing a long tracking dolly shot! I wouldn't expect Hudson to emerge from the editing room until midnight on the 31st when he clicks "upload"...
OK, then.
Really getting excited for this fest.
Hang in there John, just remember these words uttered by a wise man :cheesy:

Wow, I just saw Barry's on this as well. Little intimidating when you know you're competing visually against the 'MAN' when it comes to anything Panasonic, etc. That said, I'm looking forward to seeing this film even that much more ... should be good.

Thanks everyone ! Im getting there !

Im just stoked I got off my duff and did something for once !

Hey, Barry already said he's just there to shoot pointers and help. Hudson's the man behind the Cam yeah? Or did you already mean that Hudson's the MAN behind anything Panasonic?

DOH! I mean, I'm flattered :), but let's keep things in perspective... This wasn't a 10-ton grip truck and a four-person camera crew and a dedicated sound mixer and some production assistants; this was ultimate guerilla, 48-hour-film-festival caliber pacing. I'm serious when I say that our entire crew was two -- John was above-the-line, I was below-the-line. And we were racing. Running between setups, hauling gear, setting up the tripod and rigging the microphone and aiming the reflectors and counting the minutes until we didn't have any more sun, trying to bank on whether we can get the dolly shot or not... it was a blast, but I don't think we'll have the kind of cinematography that we've come to expect from MacGregor or JDS or some of our more all-out teams.

Not that it's bad or anything (although I'm always my own harshest critic) but I just want to make sure we keep things in context: we were shooting the original DVX, with the Letus, and we didn't even have a monitor -- no peaking, no EVF DTL, no Focus Assist, no DV Rack -- I'm on pins and needles here, wondering if half the shots are even in focus and if John's even still speaking to me after this mad dash! =:O

I think we got some good shots, they looked good in the LCD, but I haven't seen any of the footage on a monitor so I don't really know. Only John knows how it really looks. I'm hoping it's all good, and I'm hoping that we got him what he envisioned, but I know that our members go all-out on these fests so I know expectations can be pretty high and I don't want people thinking that we're out there pulling out all the stops or anything; this was gonzo banzai grab-it-and-run filmmaking. It was a lot of fun, it's been a while since I've done it this way and I was pretty happy with how the shots looked; I'm just worried because I haven't seen the footage and there are so many places where mistakes can creep in when you're doing too many jobs by yourself, y'know?

If "Dissonance" turns out brilliantly, it's because of John's writing, directing, composition, camera operation, editing, and color correction and sound design. My role was merely as support to try to get him what he wanted, within the time & crew constraints that we had. I just hope that the raw materials we were able to get will be enough for him to craft his vision into a finished film.

Arright, next time I'll wait to say something. LOL. My bad. Just saw it iterated earlier in the thread that J_Hud was the visionary and decided to recap that.

Sorry!

I do like this though

Well, brevity ain't my strong point! While I was typing out that page-long blather, you summed it up in a sentence!

Hope you make it John because I am looking forward to seeing some of your work. All I can remember seeing up until now is some footage of your son riding a bike around. Nice job putting together some good people and getting a project together. Can't wait to see it.
