GH4 Discontinued - Panasonic Lumix G 25mm f/1.7 ASPH

I ordered this lens from B&H during the $100 sale that they had on in Dec. They got my money and put it on back order. Just now I received an email that it has been discontinued. Very disappointed. Both B&H and Panasonic are no longer at the top of my list.

It's listed for $249 at Adorama but is on backorder. My guess is Panasonic is unable to provide a firm shipment date on the next batch and B&H won't "string along" customers on that kind of basis. The $100 sale over the holidays must have "cleaned out" US stock suppiies.

It's possible they're shortening their MFT lens lineup going forward, as the pro market moves toward the APS-C and Full Frame models. As a consumer product, affordable zooms make more sense.

Well, it was a new product. Two and a half months on the market wasn't very long for a product. I would love to know the official reason. Maybe Panasonic screwed up by selling it at $100 and due to a high number of lenses on back order decided to kill the product. If so, there will be little "love" for them.

You have it half right. It's not discontinued but the issue is that Panasonic, after causing a huge amount of orders to be taken because of the special pricing, will not now honor the discount to the dealers, leaving the dealers looking at a large deep hole which they don't want to fill (understandably). It will be available in April but at its regular price. This is leaving a very bad taste in the mouths of many.

Ah...that makes sense. Thanks. Yes, I am a little pissed but I will get over it. Just hope it is not a hassle getting my money back from B&H as no action on their part so far.

Are you sure they actually took money? My understanding is that they do not charge until an item is shipped. I have in the past received notice from a credit card company that a charge has been placed on it for a back ordered item, but on talking to B&H, they told me it was only a place holder to qualify the purchase and that no money has been withdrawn. You may want to check with your credit card company.

At least when Fujii has done this, they stood behind the price. Same for the Fuji X mount Zeiss lenses when those went for about 50% of the pair of 12mm and 32mm.

As a side it's a good excuse to get the 42.5mm f/1.7 with IS. It's the best m43 lens I've ever used. It's an awesome portrait lens for both still and video. I don't leave home without it now.

Cheers,
Pete
