Disappointed over closed thread

Mmm, I really didn't expect that thread to be shut down.
With all due respect Jarred, noone was 'fighting'.

People were expressing frustration which you may not share, but perhaps should think twice about stifling.

As I was about to post to the thread that was arbitrarily locked, I'll post what I wrote here:

Even something nice and vague would be better than nothing, as in 'the second shipment will be no less than double but most likely no more than four times the amount of the first shipment... I'm sure information that vague is available, but it is not forthcoming... It just makes me fear the second shipment will be really small too...

I guess the sad part is that although I can understand Panny's motives for not saying anything, it is the early adopters who suffer for their enthusiasm for Panny and its product.

Now those gripes will just start showing up everywhere! I thought that thread was keeping the nonsense nice and contained...
 
I agree.

It's not "total nonsense" (with all due respect to Jarred) to be concerned and express that concern about delivery dates of $7k to $10K purchases.

Isn't that our business to anticipate and plan for the use of technology we purchase, and to try to anticipate reasonably when we might receive it.

It ain't my board, and I moderate at another one, and I understand there are bills to pay and that depends on sponsorshops.

I also believe that the exchange is beneficial to everyone, including Panasonic.

I didn't see much "total nonsense" in the postings. Just frustration on both sides.
 
I'm all for the moderation of quality of content on the board. I've bailed out of DVinfo discussions on the HVX200 because everyone is so damn negative and neurotic, and I'm about to cease reading stuff altogether, but I keep learning and seeing new footage like the Steadicam footage posted today. So I am continuing to visit this forum, but the paranoia, fear, doubt, negativity, and psycho rant babble bullsh*t is getting SO old.

GARR!!! I wish there was a "positive comments only" thread that could include footage and screengrabs as well.

May be you might explain how the quality and content of the board is compromised by people looking for information.

Panasonic posts corrections about perceived quality.

It's got to work both ways

Yes, agreed. There was a lot of positive comments going on in that thread alongside the mild frustration.

I think it becomes nonsense when it becomes clear that the answers just aren't coming. Just like people who get upset that the camera doesn't include some feature that they want (e.g., HDV), people wanting to get shipping details need to just come to terms with the fact that it's just not something they're gonna get right now. Good? Bad? Everyone can decide that for themself... but it's pretty clear that 30 more pages of complaining just ain't gonna help.

Take a deep breath... clear your mind... smile...

I think that that is everybody's point.

They're asking why they are not coming.

For example, Panasonic says "we shipped less than five (or whatever) units per dealership stateside."

We hope to ship in quantities off 25/50/100/whatever by Febuary. However, we cannot guarantee that.

Bad news. But it is news.

If that's a reference to Panasonic and some sort of reference to the idea that Panasonic would pull their sponsorship, you might want to be aware that Panasonic has never paid a dime to sponsor this site. They have donated some prizes to the festivals, but they are not a paid sponsor and Jarred keeps it that way so he can say whatever he feels like.

That was a totally incorrect observation I made, and I apologize to everyone for it. I felt I needed to ask, and I directed a private message to Jared who quickly clarified it for me.

I'm was wrong to imply (stupidly) otherwise. But I though it should be asked.

I cant friggin believe this.

The last thread was closed because people where making personal attacks against Jan, obviously a respected member.

I was loosing my mind because you guys just dont get it... and for christ sakes, Jan comes on board and tells everyone what the scoop is, that there where delays, just in case everyone has been under a rock for some reason and didn't listen to the dealer say a month ago that there was gonna be low shipments.

Grow up people.. this crap isnt doing anyone any good. take your frustrations out somewhere else, not on my board.

Here's my two cents and then I'm through because there really isn't anything more to add to the info request.

That thread, asides from the first post by Barra, was extremely civil. As is this one. Just about everyone called Barra to task, not just you. We all pulled it back to civil discussion, and merely pointed out the kind of info we would like to see released within the near future. I thought that was part of what this board was about: letting Panny know how we feel. There is no reason to muzzle everyone just because of Barra's excesses.

As for you losing your mind, all I can suggest *maybe* you should take step back and detach yourself a little... You really did take it all very personally. Why not just say 'bah', wave a hand at us and leave it at that?

That is all. I love this board. I appreciate the hard work everyone puts in to make it a great, informative place. I just hope people are allowed to voice their concerns civilly without having the 'happy police' drop on them like a ton of bricks.

At this point, bring on the "Happy Police," I say. I now call the HVX200 the most dramatically anticipated video cameras to ever be released. The same ugliness is happening on DVinfo and Cinematography.com. I suppose that indicates how revolutionary the camera is. People are resisting, fighting, and incredibly passionate about it to the point of absurdity and irrationality.

i appreciate your feedback Malcom.. The personal attacks by Barra have been dealt with.

I need to make an executive decision sometimes, and this is one of them. The 2 threads here complaining about delays, when everyone with advanced information, and panasonic themselves have come in to resolve with no avail, need to just be stopped. People are getting heated, and private messages back and forth that appear to resolve things then publically people turn around and continue the trolling just need to be stopped.

Yes, there is a delay. We cant do anything about it. I asked people to chill out, the Product rep chimed in to help settle things but it didnt work. People are just mad, and taking it out by peeing on my roses in my back yard.

As for me stepping back.. its probally a good idea, and I tried to by making a joke about it all. Thought that would stop, but my own moderator came in and insulted Jan all over again, and kept the trolling going. So i need to act accordingly, it may be a little ugly, and many people im sure will call me a panasonic hoar. I can live with that.

Panasonic doesnt pay to be here.. and they let us give you guys alot of information and exclusives that you wouldnt otherwise get... so if it comes to me dropping a few haters its worth it for the good of the board.

So sorry... I dont mean to act like a bully. There is just some people i dont want playing in my backyard anymore, and i gotta ask them to go home.
