Disapointed with JVC HD100-U

... or they should be renamed "people who have seen the split at 0db". Because it can happen and does occasionally happen, and has nothing to do with Sony. Tim Dashwood just posted clips where it happens, and he's researching the circumstances that caused it (he thinks it may be due to flare on one half of the screen and not the other). We got it when shooting with the mini35. It can happen. It needs to be figured out and managed (we need to determine how and why it happens, and then instruct people on how to avoid those circumstances). What we don't need to do is bury our heads in the sand...

Fair enough, but I would leave it at "people who CLAIM to have seen the split at 0db" since they didn't really post any shots of their 'problem'. Always hard to rely on, mainly when they just joined the forum...

Puppy, I find this camera fantastic and I'm about to purchase one, however the split at 0db is a fact, take a look at this from a Tim Dashwood's post:

The split really concerns me, I don't want to avoid any circumstances. Most of my work is with uncontrolled situations and I want a unit with no split at least at 9db.

I really should say that this is one of my replacement cameras that I DID NOT see split-screen on until this particular test. Also, this camera has been pushed to the extreme (gamma-wise) which is giving me the equivalent of about +12 gain exposure without gain grain. I will be forwarding this test to JVC, and will probably end up getting another unit. I need to double-check the other cam I have as well.
Also, the split is not there except is certain situations with lens flaring on one side. I plan to test this particular situation further.

Despite all the various questions, doubts, and rumours (founded and unfounded) , JVC corporate still has not officially addressed the split-screen problem with their new cam.

As the responses in this thread indicates (particularly the doubt that headlespuppy seems to have about the existence of the effect), most people still don't quite know what to think about this potentially incredible camera.

Why JVC corporate does not address the issue is absolutely mind-blowing. Even if it's to say, 'The isue existed a few cameras, but now it is fixed.'
John

PS - can't wait for Barry Green's anticipated report on the camera... Although as a side note, if JVC let a camera with the split-screen effect to get into his hands, they're, ah , slower than I suspected.

HD100 Users need solutions not criticism.

Headless Puppy: Why are you so defensive about the HD100? It is abundantly clear that the split screen is indeed an issue in most of the cameras. Stop questioning peoples motives and get on the consumers side. One day you may make a purchase that may bite you in the arse too. Less cynicism-more support. I suspect you must have some affiliation with JVC or an alternative motive to sooner cut down a colleague instead of supporting the community that supports you. I'd rather hear from people on the forum who will either at the very least empathize or provide some form of solution based comments. If you are one of the few who have not had a run in with the split screen issue consider yourself lucky.

As for the rest of us...well aren't we just a bunch of suckers to believe a global company like JVC would release a camera that is defect free.
Awwwwwe Shucks!!!!

I wouldnt even take the chance that footage you may shoot for a client may have this problem. Yeah you can blame it on the camera if it ever comes back to you but you know for sure that producer will mention it to others and want their money back. This puts a mark on your rep. Will it matter? Depends on who they know. Maybe it will maybe it wont. It would haunt me every shoot thinking will this be the shoot that the problem arises. I dont need that type of stress.
