Disabling the focus ring

I'd love to read the effing manual but I left it in a hotel a few months ago. Searching on this didn't really help. Looks like 'focus lock' means something else :D

But is there a way to lock the focus and/or disable the ring so that bumping it while you're moving the zoom ring around has no effect?

I shoot sports and use the zoom ring a lot. I keep hitting the damn focus ring by accident.

Any help on this is appreciated.

mmmmm.....

Backfocus plug is the magical answer you need-

It's a tutorial for the HVX, but I assume that it works for the DVX as well.

You could make an extension so that the focus could be controlled by a knob you attach anywhere.
Let me know how it goes.

Wow that's a great idea. Thanks man.

I'll definitely be using tape:D

Actually I do have a LANC control coming in the mail. Along those same lines, I may just leave it in to achieve the same thing. I'd honestly be scared of getting a small deviation in the required resistance between the two models. I don't own an ohm meter.
