dirrrty lens

i posted this up a while back but have had no joy with responses :(

i really need to clean my cameras lens not just the cover lens but the actual bulb like lens behind the cover (not sure on tecnical terms sory)

I neeed advice on how to do this properly otherwise im going to balls it up,

i dont even know what to use, a lens cleaning kit, or one of the lens pens? could really do with some help this time around guys, production is nigh

:violin:

By "cover lens" do mean a filter attached to the lens? Remove any screw on filter, CAREFULLY remove the metal plate in front of the actual lens and GENTLY clean the lens with a cleaning solution and a piece of rolled up lens tissue torn in half. Kind of like a little brush. Do not apply cleaner directly to the lens element itself. If the lens only has dust on it, just blow it off with a bulb/brush gadget and don't bother with the cleaning solution. NEVER "SCRUB" THE LENS!
Hope this helps,
Ken

Hi ken, and thanks

no i dont mean a filter, if you look into you camera you can see the "eye" lens behind another glass lens, i need to get behind that glass lens to clean the eye lens

am i making sense?

I think you're seeing an additional element (what you call the bulb) behind the outermost element. You can't access it without being very destructive. You shouldn't need to anyway, since any dirt on it shouldn't show up as it is located in a very "out of focus" area in the element array. Just clean the outermost element as minimally as possible. Stop down your iris, focus in closely and point it toward a light source and check out your results.

so if i did gain access the bulb it would be extremly destructive? so im guessing the is no way in?

Ok i will give your theory a try Hacker, at the risk of sounding like a total idiot, what do you mean "STOPDOWN" the iris

When I mean destructive, I mean that the regular user can't access the inner elements normally without breaking something on the way in. Only an experienced tech (maybe) would know how to do it in a way that it would be unharmed when it's all back together. And by "stopdown" I mean close down the iris to a very small opening (this makes any dust on the lens more visible than if the iris is open.) Also, the ideal scene to look for dust is with the bright light shining into the lens along with a dark background to make the dust show up better when you look at the display. Does that make sense?

yea perfect sense

when i stop down the iris, the blotches sem to become more transparent but also grow, you can see them even though they their opacity drops. i really gota get to the bulb like lens,

without a doubt it needs a clean!! Any thoughts?

arrrgh
