The Digital Video Expo 2011 is over and as
always it is the place to see what's at the
leading edge for Digital Video Production.
This was my 6th DV Expo.

Trends. Yes, as always there's the heavy hardware.
If your gonna make Avatar II your probably
shopping this week for new gear at the DV Expo.
But, clearly DSLR and in particular Canon DSLR,
is taking a larger and larger share of the
Video Production bag of tools. In fact, IMO, at
this time Canon owns the DSLR movie industry.

I shot a 20min video at DV Expo 2011. Everyone
is invited to view that video at:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ic-7dnAY_QI

YouTube has been generous to me in that they
have removed most of the limits to my video length
and file sizes. So this video is available all
the way up to 1080p. You'll need a fast enough
computer and Internet connection to deal with
that.

My camera is a Canon T3i with a Tokina 11~16
wide angle ( cine ) lens. During my visit I
was offered, and accepted, the opportunity
to mount up a Zeiss 2.0/28mm Prime and a
Schneider Optics Cine-Xenar II 2.1/35mm.
You can see though those lenses at 3:25 and
9:45 respectively. It's not often you get
a chance to mount a lens on your cam that
costs more then 10x the cost of your cam.
If you look quick you can see my Tokina 11~16
sitting on the showcase top at both booths.
98% of this video was shot with the Tokina.

The Dana Dolly at 06:00 is well worth the
look for any videographer. It's a bargain
at $400 and will add a LOT to your shoot.

For all of us into heavy hardware the Cineped
at $15,000 is impressive. In the video is a
full up rigged RED camera with all the bells
and whistles rolling around on a Cineped.
Anyone with about $100,000 can have one of
these rigs. See it at 14:48.

The only 3D gear shown at the show was by
Panasonic. 12:38. This is a no holds barred
full up 3D capture camera with associated
gear. One of the sales mgrs of Panasonic
confirmed to me that demand for 3D gear
has in fact plateaued. I suspect it'll always
be around but won't ever take over 2D.

I added a music track to the video as there
really is no sound, no interviews, in this
video.

Enjoy the show.
