DigiOptical 18-50

Is anyone aware of source other than B&H? And other than the Red version, which sells for an additional $2K

The Red version that's for sale now, is not the same lens as this DigiOptical. Red discontinued the 18-50 long ago, and that is the one that is reportedly the same as the DigiOptical.

Red now sells the Red Pro 17-50, which is reported to be much better mechanically than the older 18-50, and that's the one that now sells for $6k.

There is no shortage of barely used Red 18-50s in the Reduser for sale section. $2800 is the going rate.

If you don't see one for sale, post you want one. I found one in 20 minutes for a friend that had just bought his F3.

Got this a few months ago on reduser.....
a bargain at $2300......sorry for bragging,
Now I am looking for the big brother 50-150mm.

Thanks all. Well aware of the mechanical concerns many have had with the DigiOpticals. But an inexpensive way to get into zoom PL lenses.

Don't know how I missed that eBay auction since I've been keeping my eye on the auctions.

Has anyone heard about a company like Duclos "fixing" up the lens to last longer? I could use one in the box but, still, that is a lot of cash to make up for.

Yes, Duclos (and others) can go through it and fix a lot of issues, but there are some aspects/symptoms they can't fix just due to the shortcuts whoever made these made in the design.

I called and got a quote about having my RED 18-50 overhauled... very $$ I've already learned how to pull focus with its tighter turning and I just couldn't justify spending that kinda money on a $2800 lens

how much? more than $500? who was the quote from Red or duclos?

I kind of dont want to say where it was quoted, but it was very much over $500

Yes it is pricey getting a Cine lens serviced ,
No different than getting your car serviced ,
A very necessary thing , and adds value to the lens ,
Look at it from the point of Original Price of Lens.. Agains the Service cost ...!

Having smooth / non sticky focus, Zoom and iris rings will make your story telling easier
and hence make the Client happy , and thus more clients , and then More jobs ........and then more lens !
