Different tapes different lubs.

Hi!

I've always used Panasonic tapes with my DVX 100 and would like to use some JVC tapes. Do you think I'll be able to play back the JVC ones without problems related to the lub?

Do Panasonic tapes use the same kind of lub as JVC's?

Thanks :)

Panasonic, JVC, Maxxell, FUJI, and TDK are all dry-type. Sony is the only wet-type.

I believe the common wisdom is that if you do have to go between wet/dry, use the proper head cleaner before hand.

But head cleaners are also "wet-" or "dry-type." And head-cleaning cassettes do more harm than good, since they are not much different from dragging fine-grit sand paper across the heads.

Dry types seem to be the norm. But another rule is to stick with one brand. I myself use Panasonic PQ tapes and Panasonic head cleaner.

Run the head cleaning tape once. then stick with the new brand. you should be fine.

New brand meaning the sony tapes? or a dry tape? Our camera is brand new and I believe that the sony tape is the only one that has been used. Should I stick with them? Or run cleaning tape and buy dry tapes?

If a sony tape is the only kind of tape that has been used in the camera, am I alright with continuing to use sony or do I need to clean and start with a dry-type tape?

Sony manufactures both dry type and wet type lub DV tapes. I think they stop making wet type now. You need to keep a head cleaning tape anyway. So run the tape once and stick with whatever brand you want to use.
