GH2 Differences between Micro 4/3 lens adapters

Hello friends,

I wanted to know if you could tell me wether there's a difference between a prestigious and expensive lens adapter such as Voigtlander and a cheaper one such as RainbowImaging?

Thanks.

My rainbowimaging adapter broke after a few uses, the pin that retracts the locking pin just fell off.

My Voigtlander has worked fine for 1.5 years now.

The three main issues with adapters are:
A. Wobble
B. Internal reflection
C. Infinity focus

There is a huge difference in construction between the low cost adapters (including the fotodiox's which I have a shelf full of gathering dust) and something like a voigtlander and novoflex. Take your adapter without anything attached and look at the internal walls while it is pointed on axis at a light source, if you can see any reflection chances are that your camera sensor will too. Take the same adapter and attach something that weighs about 500g (roughly 1lb, the Tokina 11-16 is pretty close to that) hold the camera body in one hand and the lens in the other; notice any movement or rotation at the adapter? If you are ok with wobble and internal reflection go for it.

It is possible to "tune up" wobbly adapters and apply anti-reflective treatments to the insides, but if the manufacturers didn't care or know the difference in the first place it seems a little silly to expect they would get anything else right. The only Fotodiox I still use is the m42 to micro43, it doesn't have a female bayonet interface and body isn't deep enough to introduce any internal reflection.

For fd mount, Fotga makes an awesome adapter. It's almost all one piece of metal with the only other parts are the locking mechanism. eBay search Fotga.

I've shot some pretty amazing footage using my Legacy lenses and Fotodoix adapters. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. As Patrick Swayze says in Roadhouse "Opinions vary"

Try doing a focus-pull with a wobbly fotodiox and then fix the image shift in post, behold the beauty.

All I can say is mine are rock solid mounted on my GH2. Even an old school Vivitar 70-200mm which is extremely heavy. Again, opinions vary and my experience has been good with the Fotodoix adapters.

I do "focus pulls" with a follow focus on pretty big primes using a fotodiox adapter nearly daily, and don't get wobbly images. If your lens is wobbly, either bend the tabs inside the adapter out more to maintain more friction on the lens, check your lenses themselves, or send the adapter back and get a new one.
