Difference Between DVX100, DVX100A, and DVX100B

I'm looking to purchase one of these models. Right now, price really isn't an option, but I don't want to have to spend money on a model when the older model is more suited for me. I've googled the differences but many people tell me the only difference are having true widescreen on the DVX100B.

What are the differences guys?

Are the video quality the same in between all of them?

I'm buying so I can shoot it with my first FEATURE FILM so I really need some help guys.

Thanks.

If price is no object, go ahead and get a new DVX100B.

Here's the deal:

The 100, the original, raised the bar for "pro-sumer" cameras with its 24p capabilities and cine-like gamma settings. It does have some challenges, though. There is no anamorphic squeeze setting, only standard 4:3 and letterbox. You cannot get color bars in 24p mode. There's a noticeable delay between audio and video in 24p mode.

The 100A fixed the bugs in the 100. It can utilize color bars in 24p, the audio delay was (for the most part) fixed, and the chips were improved for better picture. It also added 16:9 anamorphic squeeze and more finite image controls in the menu settings.

The 100B is generally regarded to have the best chips of the three. They made some other modifications with the 100B, including an LCD monitor that can swing out slightly past 90º. To do that, they had to sacrifice some internal space around the tape transport mechanism, and that meant that they needed to get rid of the interval record (time lapse) feature. They also added the capability to accept external TC via FireWire, for syncing TC between two 100B cameras for a two-camera shoot. The 100B also has improved monitoring functions, and can display squeeze mode in a letterboxed image on the LCD (as opposed to the 100A that only shows the squeezed footage in full-frame 4:3).

If you're going to buy used, 100A or 100B. I still have my 100A and it still performs like a champ. But again, if you want the added benefit of new (manufacturer warranty, etc.), get a 100B from B&H or Adorama.

I remember it being said when it came out that the 100B also has a cleaner, less noisy image at all gain setting and some new image quality adjustments such as cine mode D, higher res. viewfinder and some other refinements. Overall, it's the daddy.

The feature available in the 100B that I miss the most in the 100A is the ability to show the entire frame without overscan on the EVF. If you can't use an external monitor, go with the 100B.

get the 100a or 100b
I personally like the look of the 100a slighty more because it looks more filmik IMO
