Didn't get mine today!! And won't for a long time!!

Maybe its better for the people waiting, because by the time NAB comes around and you don't have an HVX, you may end up cancelling your order to and put your name on the RED camera list. Depending on the price announcement.

That's a nice theory, but even if RED is affordable (and that's a big "if"), it likely won't be out for another year. That's longer than I am willing to wait to shoot projects.

Get the camera that suits your needs the best for the time being, and upgrade later if something better for your situation comes along down the road. There will always be a "better camera" in development, but unless the timetable of release makes reasonable sense, waiting around for the next best thing is a bad reason to prevent yourself from shooting today.

Don't wait for RED

Don't wait for RED

RED will show a nonworking prototype at NAB. Jim claims that they're trying to get working prototypes by the end of the year. IF they can accomplish this, then that means the production versions will probably be out middle of next year or maybe later. That's almost 2 years to wait. Uh...what will you guys be doing for the next 2 years without a camera. I guess some people here are probably just hobbyists and don't use their cams to make a living.

By the way, there just seems to be no way that RED will be under $10,000. It will be at least $25,000 or more. Remember, it's going to be made by the guy who founded Oakley. How much do Oakleys cost? That's right, A LOT. So there's no sense waiting for RED since you can't afford it anyways.

Just buy a cam now, make some money off of it, then sell it in a year or two and buy the next shiny thing in the store.

is there price gouging? who?

i was under the impression that hvx has disappointed and that prices were actually falling as people were losing interest.

The only price gouging I've seen are a few questionable sales on eBay. My local dealer comes pretty close to "gouging", but they're still selling for a bit less than MSRP, I'm just faced with the buy it (probalby next week) and cough up nearly $1K more for tax on my HVX package than I would have to spend vs. buying from EVS.... At this point I'm going to pay the extra money and buy locally so I can get working with the HVX. I have a few potential projects/clients that may not hang around if I wait.
