Did you guys buy a warranty?

Well I'm usually not the one to buy warranties, its just that whole thing of spending a few hundred more dollars for that chance that your product breaks. However, I know I'll using the HV20 often, and therefore thought I should go with one. To my surpise buydig.com offered the 4 year Mack warranty for $55 shipped. This seems like a really good deal consdering Circuit City offers a 2 year warranty for $180. Did you guys buy a warranty with your camcorder, and overall do you think warranties are a good thing to get with higher priced electronics?

I bought a two year warranty for the HV20 through NewEgg.com. I believe it was under $60. Seemed like a no brainer. My advice is if the warranty is affordable, go for it. You never know what unexpected mechanical disasters can happen with cameras.

I purchased a 4yr no questions asked warranty for apx. $170 from Best Buy. I've purchased warranties from BB before and it was worth the trouble. I can 'buy back' portions of the warranty...i.e. if after 2yrs I don't want warranty coverage anymore, I can tell BB to credit me back $$ for the remaining two years...good deal imo.

More importantly, if my HV20 'goes bad' for some unforseen reason but is no longer on the market, then I can get a current market equivalent. By the time 4yrs comes around, they'll prob be selling Red minis at BB for 1k!

bringing this to the top, I'm considering a 4yr Mack warranty for $75cdn, sounds like a deal but they could have loopholes and such. I've been crewed before on camera warranties, and they're hard to fight. but it seems like cheap peace of mind and good for resale (not that I'll ever sell this little tank!)

doesnt canon offer a default manufacture warranty?
Also, check the terms and conditions of your credit card.
Both my mastercard and amex will double that 1 year to 2 under the same manufacturers terms just for using the card to buy the entire camera.

I didn't buy an extended warranty for my HV20 because I don't plan on keeping it for more than one year. It's HDV (no 60P).............. nuf said. :zombie_smiley:.

I paid with American Express. You automatically received an additional one year warranty after the original waranty expired. When it comes to repair, they either pay for the repair expense, or reimburse you the entire intiial cost if it's not fixable.
