Did anyone else get this email from Mike Hechanova (Arrik here on the boards)??

It's titled "My Predicament," and it reads as follows:

Hello,

I am in a hurry writing you this mail. I traveled to UK wales for an urgent function and i got mugged at a gun point. It was a terrible experience. All cash and credit cards were stolen away from me. I reported to the police they asked me to wait for 2 weeks to carry out investigations. I am totally freaked out here.

Right now, my return flight leaves in couple of hours from now. I am only telling you this because i do not want you to panic at all. just keep it the way have told you till i return back homeI am seriously having problems in settling my hotel bills and to get a taxi down to the airport. Just wondering if you could loan me $2000 to settle my bills and to get a taxi down to the airport. I promise to pay back when i return back home today.

Please you can help me send the money to my name and my present location because i am only left with my passport to pick up the money.

Do let me know if you will be going to the western union outlet right now to send the money to my name and my present location and please dont forget to get back to me with the transfer details which is the senders information and the MTCN number.

I await your urgent response.

Thanks Alot

There are no email addresses listed in the "To" line, which leads me to believe it's a mass BCC email.

Does anyone know Mike's whereabouts, and if this is legit, or if his email account's been hacked into? I purchased a microphone from him about 2 years ago, but I haven't spoken to him since.

I'll check it out for you for $3000.00. :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

I mean, it's not like I have the money to help him or anything, I just wanted to see if a fellow member of the board was really in trouble and could be assisted by someone else, or if his reputation was being harmed by a hacker.

We've gotten an amost identical email from some friends recently and it was a total scam. It seems to be new one but a scam it is. These dirtbags have to morals.

Thanks, that's what I figured.

EDIT: Should've just Googled it. Looks like this is happening to a ton of Gmail accounts.

Do these morons not realize that the person sending 2K will probably want to talk to you before doing so? :)

If you can get on a computer to send an email you can sure as hell get to a phone and make a collect call.

Yeah I got it too

Yeah I got it too

Does it mean this site's been hacked? Apparently they got the list of email addresses...

Weird, this does look like a scam, but Mike is in fact traveling to Europe for a big shoot right now. But I'd assume if he had really gotten mugged I would have heard more directly from him, or at least Spike...

SCAM SCAM SCAM SCAM. And it's becoming increasingly common

Not necessarily... plus it doesn't take much more effort to send this to 100 instead of ten. They only need one person to send the money.

Also, there is actually a variation of this that involves calling instead of email. A couple of local grandmas got calls from their grandsons (whom they haven't talked to in a couple of months) saying they were visiting Canada and got thrown in jail in Calgary or something like that and needed money sent for bail. They panicked and sent the money. Of course their real grandsons weren't even in Canada.

Oh I get it, it only takes one. Still, no way I'm sending money to anyone without talking to them first. Not in this day and age, and I'm sure I'm not alone.

Old people have been taken advantage of long before the internet. It's sad really.

Michael, I know you won't send money, but I'm in a real pinch. I've almost completed my WESTFest script after a 48 hour marathon writing spree and I've forgotten to run to the store for supplies!

Could you see yourself clear to send me a can of SPAM and some saltine crackers to hold me over?

Your friend,
-Zaza:thumbsup:

Yeah that must be the latest scam. My girlfriend was on facebook and a friend of our popped up on chat with the same BS story. She was all ready to try and help, but then we noticed they said they took a "quick weekend trip to the UK" Well knowing they're not filthy rich and wouldn't be making a "quick weekend trip to the UK", I asked her to ask the main character's name from a script our friend had written... needless to say they sign off right afterwards.

"...I'm sending money to anyone without talking to them first".

But would you send money to anyone after talking to them first ?

In this case you can talk to me and send money....

Forget the crackers but the SPAM is on the way. No can though.

Just got the same e-mail. Thankfully they bastards are not smart enough to really craft a well-written letter. There's so many obvious flaws that betray the fact that Mike didn't send it. Also, if they had asked for a modest sum like $200 I'm sure more people would be likely to get taken in.

Come on though guys, as a Brit, the guy getting mugged while visiting the UK is totally believable!!! Why do you think I left :-)

You sound like you'd make a good 419 scammer.
