D'Focus to adjust zoom on 7D

I have a 7D and I'm looking to purchase a follow focus for it. Ive pretty much settled on the D'Focus but I wanted to know if it was possible to use the d'Focus to adjust the zoom as well as the focus ring? If i set the gear on the zoom ring, cant I use it to zoom in or out?

For event stuff I'd suggest a friction focus. Anything else like narratives or very calculated pulls the D Focus is fine.

I'm sure that would work. Just got the jag one size fits all zip tie gears - they'll
stay put if you want to fit them around the zoom control

I never knew about the friction follow focus until now....but I'm glad I do!

Thanks for the info broxjragon. It's now on my list for documentary gear.

Zoom rings are a bit stiffer to turn, you dont want to have your gear ring pop out of place. that'd be bad

I've got an old 28mm F2.8 Tamron lens with a focus ring that is stiffer than hell, and my DFocus is in 100% working order. I'm sure it's not an issue.

The D-Focus D-Gear uses those little screws that have popped out on me. Try using it on the 17-50 2.8 Tamron.
