Destroyed Footage (Kinda) - Can Anyone Help?

Hello,

I've had my HVX-200 for three months now and have done many tests without any problems. However, tonight I tried to import footage off my P2 Card and all it would import is destroyed footage (covered in multi-colored, pixelated static). I tried everything and nothing seemed to work. I even played the clips back on the camera and they looked perfect.

Eventually, I shot a few more clips and tried again. It worked perfect. All my clips were imported without any signs of damage.

I've never seen this before and it scares the crap out of me. I'm preparing to travel many over in India with this camera and would like to know why and how this happened and more importantly, what I can do to prevent it.

Can anyone help me?

Best,
Matt

Write Protect the card before any transfer. if the clips play OK in the camera, then as long as you don't mess with the card you haven't lost anything even if a transfer gets corrupted.

Thanks to both for your responses.

I imported via Final Cut Pro version 6.0, using Log & Transfer. I'm using Mac OS X 10.5.4 and using a new MacBook with 2.4 GHz and 2.0 GB RAM.

I just shot another hour of footage today and had no problem importing it.

I just worry about this happening again, and if it does - how to fix it.

Best,
Matt

Did you write protect the card?
Did you use some helper program to offload? Or did you drag and drop? If the latter, use at minimum P2CMS (free) or better, Raylight or P2 Log Pro or at least, Shotput P2. P2 Genie would also do, just use some real interface that is watching your back on the footage. Verify mode.

Best,

jan
