Hello! My name is Daniel Fahre and is a 20 year old film maker from norway. I just completed my first short film "Departure". What do you guys think about it? Do you like it? What can i do better next time i make a short film? Do you have any questions about the production?
Watch it in full screen in HD ;)

Departure is a Norwegian-made independent, low-budget, short film that was written, produced, edited and directed by 20-year old Daniel Fahre. It stars Iselin Saga in the leading role. Tyrone Wiggins and Henrik Berg Larsen play roles as agents. The film was shot on various locations in Telemark, Norway over the course of four days, and was completed for only about $3,000.

The film tells the story of a woman who finds herself in a futuristic world after being involved in a serious car crash. The chase is on as the woman tries to get away, chased by special agents in this sci-fi thriller which is set in a dark future universe.

I'm commenting while I watch, so don't be afraid :-p

- the sound of the crash itself, it's a bit to late I think, 1 or 2 frames
- the "pops" I hear in the beginning, when she"s on that roof...is it ment to be ? Or digital mistakes ?
- it's not very clear to me she got in the future after the accident. If you wouldn't have said it in your post, I would have thought she already was in the year 3477 or so
or that the other guys come out of the future... But maybe it still has to come, I'm still watching :-p
- some detail: watch out your SFX match what's on screen, like the eyes...the sound is to early one time for me.
- I think the sound has shifted a bit in general, due to youtube and compression maybe... The footsteps aren't 100% sync... (and yes I can see if something is unsync for 1/4 th frame :-p)
- You have done some Foley ?
-03:36: this step...I missed...soundwise
- the hits and punches mis something... I think some woosh sounds, and some more "low punch" sounds (punches are not just one sound and that's it but exists out of layers)
- Storywise it's very nice, also image-wise and VFX-wise

There's one very big isue I have: the music. Not the music itself, but the use of it. You use it to much.... Music has to be chosen very carefull WHEN to use it.
When you use it to much...It doesn't fit..
There are some parts where no music is needed. Like the beginning you don't need music, because when the music comes in after it's more "powerfull".
The runningscene, the fighting scene...only use music when it's needed...

Technically well executed. You definitely know what you're doing and the quality is nice. My biggest issues with it were the overuse of music and the color grade really bothered me. Also the story makes no sense (nor does it seem to even attempt to make any sense) but i'm ok with that for a short.

Overall nice work. I would just suggest toning down the color in your next project, and letting silence be just as important as music.

i watched the short without reading your post first, I thought she was in some sort of afterlife but she was in the future?

I thought it was a good, ambitious short with good locations and crash scene.

I'm looking forward to your next short

I thought the look and execution (directing) of the film was great. Love the lens flares and color correction. The special effects were excellent as well. The chase scene (running) could have been better. None of them were running hard enough or fast enough. More camera shake may have helped. Not sure, but it looked like they were faking it. Also in the fight scene on the roof, it was a little too slow and staged. Sometimes it helps to speed up the action a little in certain spots to give it more of an impact. Other than that, I'd say well done.

I am not verry good in english, but nolankubrick, its an futuristic afterlife ;) Thanks for all the feedback! i agree with a lot of the points made here about sound and the speed of the action sequences. I have a lot to learn for my next short film!
