Demo lens?

Hello!

I was just wondering whether someone could help me out, I've recently obtained an expensive camera lens, however I literally do not know anything about them, unfortunately. Could someone please tell me what "demo" lens means?

Thank you.

Most likely, it means that it was the floor model in a shop, or maybe made a round of trade shows.

It's a way of slotting it somewhere in between used and new, since it may be missing some original packaging and may show some external wear, but if you bought it from a legitimate source, it should still be covered by the manufacturer's warranty..

i suppose the lens was used for DEMOnstration purposes...?
Mhmm certainly. Normally I'd have an idea of what "Demo" stood for, however because I do not have any kind of knowledge regarding lenses I can't even make presumptions.

Thank you very much for being kind and considerate, I appreciate your reply!

Basically a demo would still have the full functionality, correct? It doesn't seem to have any "external wear", there are literally no marks on the body of the lens; only the input (where you would look through) glass seems to be a bit worn out, although the primary (end of the lens you could say) seems to be perfectly fine. I didn't buy the lens, there's actually a rather sad story behind it, my mom's dad (my grandpa) passed away recently so she inherited a few things.
