Deliveries??!!

Dealers are only going to tell you what Panasonic tells them as official information. The official information is that they are shipping on the 27th. Unofficially (or officially if Jan wants to say so), Jan stated that they will begin shipping by the 18th. She also said Panasonic ships by air, so if any cameras begin shipping on the 18th they'll start arriving to dealers on the 20th (a Monday) since she said they pre-clear customs as well. Officially though, Panasonic is saying the 27th just to be safe. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if folks like Philip Bloom and Barry Green who tested the camera and helped Panasonic with development and finishing of the camera got preferential treatment and first shot at production run cameras, and received them early. I'd say they earned that.

The US market has has a couple of main distributors that all Panasonic product has to ship to first. Panasonic does not ship to dealers directly, AFAIK. This has to add a bit of time to the retail delivery process.

Full Compass indicated that they talked and dealt with Panasonic directly to me, it didn't feel like they had any middle distributor from my talking with them.

Aren't we all a bunch of kids waiting to get that Christmas camera ;) I've been on pre-order since October 14 and yes I feel like a kid waiting.

Totally and irrationally excited to get what is essentially a 'tool' that I use to get work done - Just can't help it though.

...Oh great.... I guess we all have to gear-up for the endless "Unboxing" videos!

(McGee - Glad I got an extra battery too...before you glombed the rest of them)

Yep, no different than getting a shiny Snap-on toolbox full of wrenches, sockets, etc. :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

You know what sux though! It's like you want to have 2 AF100s, so you can use the first one to unbox and show the second one being unboxed! :)

Means you need two AF100 :-)

Yes, my understanding is that Panasonic professional products ship to dealers directly and not through a distributor. From what Jan said in this post I got that impression, but maybe she can clarify.

No, everything from Panasonic rice cookers to Varicams go through a couple of distributors. Panasonic does not distribute directly to dealers in the US and aren't accepting any new dealers currently.

That is incorrect. Some dealers of some products that meet certain purchase volume levels receive product directly from Panasonic so they get the new products sooner and at a better cost. I know this from first-hand experience in the higher-end consumer electronics industry. So, yes, it's possible that Panasonic is shipping directly to dealers (those are likely the higher volume dealers) that are in the first batch, but we'd need clarification from Jan to be sure.

According to this link shipping starts today in the UK:
http://www.creativevideo.co.uk/public/search.php?q=AF101&w=1
"Panasonic AG-AF101 availability: First UK delivery is on 17:12:2010 - SOLD OUT Second UK delivery is on 27:01:2011 - FREE STOCK AVAILABLE, PRE-O... "
I am trying to order one of the "free stock"! :-)
I pre-ordered (and paid!) for one in October already from a supplier in Holland but haven't heard anything yet. Their site says "December".

Mike, the whole Panasonic US structure has changed recently. I've been told that all dealers go through distributors exclusively, even B&H supposedly, which could help explain their email stating a January 7 delivery for AF100's.
