Delete Clip from P2 Card on Mac

I have a HPX170 with 16GB P2. G5 Tower (PPC). Final Cut Pro 6.0.4

I successfully offloaded clips from my camera using the P2CMS software following the instructions from Barry Green. This worked fantastic. I log and transfered into FCP successfully.

However, I cannot delete the files from the P2 card. Is this a known problem with Mac? I can reformat in the camera to remove the files but is this the best way? Will I have to do this everytime?

I cannot delete files using P2CMS. It says the files are locked. The P2 card is not write protected.

I also cannot drag to the Trash from the card on the desktop. All the files are locked. I cannot unlock them in the info window (grayed out).

I'd rather not have to purchase Raylight or Shotput.

Thanks
brad

Why not simply reformat the p2 card in the camera?

To throw away the card to the trash once it's copied to the desktop or HDD, just drag it there, and empty the trash using the option key simultaneously when emptying.

I can reformat the card each time in the camera. Just checking to see if there was a different way to do this.

I have no problem ejecting the card from the desktop. I just cannot delete the contents of the card to the Trash. Even with option-click.

Thanks for the help

Drag the p2 volume to the trash.

Hold down the option key while selecting empty trash.

Has worked for about three years for me.

Or drag everything in the folder except the LASTCLP txt file to the trash and empty

Then use the get info command to unlock the file and drag that to the trash and empty.

This method no longer works...that will NOT clear the card up. At least not for the 16GB cards. I have tried this (as this is what I always used to do with the 4GB cards) and it no longer works.

I use Shotput P2 to offload the cards, and it has an option to reformat the card.

There's a little application released by Panasonic that will format the cards on your Mac. I think it's called 'P2 Format' or something like that. I'm at work at the moment so don't have access to my Mac but I'll have a look for you when I get home.

Formatting in camera is mostly fine, but if you're shooting something long (like a lecture or an event etc.) you can't necessarily stop recording to do it. And I'm sure I've read that dragging everything to the trash on the computer is not good because you remove the P2 card folder structure.

Anyway, I'll have a look for the app when I get home and get back to you.

I don't want to reformat the whole card

I'm trying to use P2CMS to delete selective clips on my 16gb card, but like the initial poster, it's saying one or more of the clips are locked. I haven't locked the cards. What gives?

UPDATE: I just deleted them, much more laboriously, from the camera, so I'm that much more curious why I couldn't delete them with P2CMS.

I know doing it in cam is not so fast but its the way I recommend when offloading with dual adapter etc, well one that works for me anyway because I

Shoot to the card.
Remove the card and write protect it.
Offload the card.
Verify the data.
Backup the data to another drive.
Remove the write protect.
Place in camera.
Format.

Just stops me ever trashing something I shouldnt.

Definitely a good process, and that will cut down the need. I'd still like the ability to be able to selectively delete from the computer. Gotta be a way.

MAC P2CMS V1.44 can delete individual P2 Clips from the cards in a HPX172 (HPX170) connected by USB2 to the MAC. It does not work when the HPX172 is connected with firewire???

When I export P2 cards to my mac I can delete the files this way:
Browse to the folder that the P2 card is in. Open contents folder. Open each subfolder (i.e CLIPS, VIDEO, etc.). Select the first file - shift select the last file - select GET INFO and uncheck the locked box. Do this for all files in the four folders and also for the lastclip.txt file. Takes about 25 seconds to do them this way and then Empty Trash and smile! Just did 3 tonight no problem.
BTW - FCP for PPC is up to version 6.06.

This is a know issue with Mac's and some versions of OSX. For some unknown reason the OS locks files on, not only P2 cards but SD cards also. You can some times eject the card and then reinsert it and all is good.

Sometimes the Panasonic P2 Formatter software does not work every time either. As the previous posters have indicated, format in the camera is the safe path.

I thought this was a Leopard OSX thing. We could format in OSX Tiger. Cannot in Leopard. Maybe we will be able to in Snow Tabby?

Using ShotPut pro is great. But I usually write-protect my p2 cards before offloading, so the card has a hard switch stopping any formatting. Even ShotPut can't format the card with the switch on.

I format using a P2 camera.

Hope this helps,

So did I until I had issues with locked files on a Powerbook G4 running 10.4.11. It's a random thing with different types of USB device's like SD card slot to USB. And there is the P2 card issue. Not all the time but random. I am unable to pin it down.
