Deep Down you are......

I question the whole dominance thing, too! Frankly, the hand with the "inner" thumb has a much stronger grip (the way my hands work, anyway... and according to wrestling principles...). So I see the "inner" thumb as dominant, and the "outer" (top) thumb as scrambing for a foothold. Thumbhold?

ullanta, how does on have an "inner thumb"? if both hands are Symmetrical?

Put simply you will know with absolute confidence which is your dominant thumb if you find it "un-natural" when you clasp your hands with the other thumb, BUT if your one of the 1% of people who find it equal with both thumbs then thats another story altogether.

Well if your missing a thumb then other tests such as the famous "draw a bicycle" test. Can also give indication of your left side/right side dominance.

Kdawg, the results was given in earlier, basically your the Logical type, rather than the visual type, how that effects the filmmaking dynamics I'm not sure :)

Right Thumb:

The left side of your brain is said to be more adept at language, logic and linear thinking.

The Left Thumb:

The right side of your brain is said to control your visual, spatial and intuitive processes.

As a filmmaker I found this alarming myself but then again I find myself being more of a businessman who happens to be trying to sale films he made. I love the marketing process as well as (if not more than) the creative process. Another thing is I tend to use the term "it's logical" or "it just common sense".

Well, what *is* that other story?

Our hemispheres have learned to put aside their differences and get along...?

Maybe I've been thinking about it too much but neither seems uncomfortable to me. Guess I'm just a freak.

I'm right thumbed and was disturbed to find out what that meant....cause I'm the complete opposite of everything listed for having a dominant left brain.

I did some more reading on it that said a dominant hand (or thumb) usually points to what sort of brain you've got...but not always. So....i think i'm right-brained anyway.

Ditto for me...

If you're interested in this sort of thing try this : http://brain.web-us.com/brain/braindominance.htm

Take it all with a big grain of salt though. Prevailing scientific theory is pointing toward much more hemispheric crosstalk than previously imagined.

Hmm, Guys I would suggest people to take this more in-depth test, from the above test, I've come of as a "Righty", which DOES have the properties I expected (earlier), however this is in contradiction to my thumb test.

I'm wondering if the thumb test is too basic a test, perhaps its much more complicated than just left thumb/right thumb mannerisms, I think upbringing could alter or have some effect on those mannerisms.

The left side and right sides are not seperate entities I would expect them to "Work" together :) crosstalk sounds more than reasonable (oh Wait thats my Left side speaking again D'oh ! )

Anhar - I understand your means of determination of "dominance" clearly; I just question whether the "top" position is indeed dominant. By "inner" thumb I mean what you call the "bottom" thumb...

Try this test, using your definition of "dominant":
1) Clasp your hands tightly, and try to pull them apart... then loosen up the "dominant" hand while trying to pull away.
2) Clasp your hands toghtly, then loosen up the other hand and try to pull away....

It seems to me that your "dominant" thumb actually has a much weaker grip... so I would call the other one "dominant" - that is, the "lower" thumb is in the privileged position, not the upper one...

I can see what your saying, I guess it all boils down to the assumption one makes about what actually defines dominance, by the way its not my test, its what psychologists have developed, so please don't blame me for it! :)

Anyway did you have a crack at that other test rsbush pointed out?

Well, my score was 18 to 0 for LEFT - but in reading the descriptions and left-vs.-right-brained comparison, I think I'm far closer to the right brain! Very strange. Of course, as with many of these things, I felt I could easily go either way on many of the questions...

Then again, I'm a Capricorn, but not very Capricorny...
