debating between 18 to 135mm IS crop lens or 28mm to 135 IS canon lens???

So far I got one person saying yeah the 28 to 135 is "better/sharper" glass quality...but like by a tiny bit...or is it way better????
If it wasn't a way better, I wouldn't say it sharper. That's why I asked why bother about the IS.

Bryan Carnathan is the man who you should get advice from. He knows this stuff like his hands.

The 18-135 gives you extra range but at a cost. The 28-135 is the better lens. The 28-105 is even better still. see this LINK and watch the roll over effect

Can someone please state what the max aperture for each of these three lenses is at 50mm, 70mm, and 105mm? Thank you.

@ Ronster, that would influence my decision if I was considering a lens for the use you describe. I just finished a 3-week run n gun doc shoot using the Tamron 17-50 2.8 VC, and the Canon 55-250 IS. I think I would have been better off with either of the two lenses you are choosing from, because I was always having to change lenses. Not ideal.

I think having either the 18-135 or 28-135 along with the 55-250 would have helped me to minimize lens swaps. But I wouldn't commit to that without knowing the max apertures at the lengths I'm asking about above.

To answer my own question (from The-Digital-Picture):

Canon EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens
Focal Length Range 18-135mm
Lenses / Groups 16/12
Aperture Range - Wide / Long f/3.5-22 / f/5.6-38
Aperture Max by Focal Length
18-21mm = f/3.5
22-30mm = f/4.0
31-40mm = f/4.5
41-63mm = f/5.0
64-135mm = f/5.6
Number of Aperture Blades 6

Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM Lens
Focal Length Range 28-135mm
Lenses / Groups 16/12
Aperture Range - Wide / Long f/3.5-22 / f/5.6-36
Aperture Max by Focal Length
28-37mm = f/3.5
38-49mm = f/4.0
50-64mm = f/4.5
65-84mm = f/5.0
85-135mm = f/5.6
Number of Aperture Blades 6

Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS Lens
Focal Length Range 55-250mm
Lenses / Groups 12/10
Aperture Range - Wide / Long f/4.0-22 / f/5.6-32
Aperture Max by Focal Length
55-73mm = f/4.0
74-95mm = f/4.5
96-153mm = f/5.0
154-250mm = f/5.6
Number of Aperture Blades 7

I think I would have had a hard time getting the 18-135 or 28-135 to see well in much of my interior available light shooting. The 55-250 is pretty open up to 95mm (4.5 to about 100 or 105 on mine). That's pretty close to the spec of the very expensive 24-105 f4 IS.
