I really liked the feel of this. I caught myself watching a video on MTV and thought man,
Those DeadKidz could do this.
It was a Beastie Boys video. I really like them, I don't know if you do. This is supposed to be a compliment. I'm bad at posting on forums.
Ok sorry for the delay on the questions, things have been real busy lately.
About the ending, The film is about two friends and how they react to life. It starts out with an overview about what they are rebelling against. It talks about how far are they willing to go. You see the two friends and what it is that they do. But you see it in segments. There is a lot you don’t see. I wanted to express their relationship and ideas without showing everything.
The end montage is supposed to express that what once felt right at a certain time might not work at a later time. Times change but that doesn’t mean that you were wrong or misguided people just change and grow and the end is a reflection on that.
For the slow mo I used a 1/60th shutter speed and just slowed it down in final cut. But I turned the frame blending off. That looked much better to me then blending the frames,
Also all the footage that is not a flash back I shot at 30p and then conformed with cinema tools to 24p.
The woods was all 1/60th except for some of the handheld and the running in the field. I think it was 1/500th. That gave the “saving private ryan” look.
The production sound was all recorded on wireless lavs in camera. I also did a bunch of foley work, boxes etc.
Ya those blown out sky shots are a problem. It was guerrilla and a bright day and when you are shooting in the shadows it can be tough.
So thanks again for all the responses it really interesting to hear what people have to say. this has been such a long project and ive been stuck in my own head on it for so long.

Also I heard that if you shoot a blank gun firing and don't see the muzzle flash, you will see it on film and vice versa. I guess that goes for the 1/48th shutter speed though.[/quote]

Nobody seems to have picked it up... well it isn't important at all in this thread, anyway before I pass over too... I can just base my talking on an _old_ Arri 16 mm I was using 12+ years ago [bought it with two friends {and two 120 m "magazzini"}, with all the Zeiss optics and a Cynoptic-or-the-like, 5.5-I-think mm and very fast, was it 1.1? well to the point]:
in such film camera the shutter rotates and reflects _alternatively_ to the viewfinder _or_ the film [_exclusive_ "or", as "alternatively" says].
Of course the DVX doesn't work like that, there isn't a path going to be alternatively sent to vision and to storage [actually something like that would imply making part of the job twice, once just for you to see what's _not_ going to be recorded].
BTW, that's why it can shoot with 1/25 sec shutter in progressive [I'm talking "PAL"ish].
)
I arrive a little late... I had bookmarked it some days ago... I'm just downloading... _very_fine_taste_ the first 70 secs I can see so far! And after reading all the comments out here, I guess I'll have no need to confirm after seeing the whole "opera".
Best luck to the DeadKidz!
I just think the girls in the paddywagons video are absolutely beautiful. I also loved the editing work and the LAST shot's little focus job! If you have not seen the paddywagons video, go ehck it out at http://www.paddywagons.com
