Re: DeadKidz

i remember seeing some nice grabs from this posted a long time ago here by jesse. i watched it, and thought it was good work. i was interested throughout. albeit having some long shots, and being a bit too "fight clubbish". anyway great work guys. :) what do you plan on doing with it now?

Re: DeadKidz

Great film, I liked it a lot. The end let me down a little bit, I thought "The Bear" was going to be the bully at the end. To me that would've been a great ending, to show that guy dead in the grass. Great editing and nice pace. The color transfer could be a little edgier, though, since you have the handheld camera throughout. Great job.

Re: DeadKidz

Psycologicly, Field Theory reminds me of Fight Club. The editing too. And the narration. Very well done, though.

Re: DeadKidz

Dude, to add. If you guys havent seen Field Theory yet. you gott a watch it now. I recommend it. Its great and I LOOOOOOVVVVEEE the Editing work on it. And the actors are actually pretty damn good at it. Keep it up!

Re: DeadKidz

Flight Club or not these 'kids' have skills and they can act! This was a great short film. I really enjoyed it; the performances, the comps, the music (lovin the classical music as they hunt) and the editing style.

Damn. Great work and inspiring! Yo Big Black:

Is this your 'boys' as in my 4 year old is my 'boy' or is this your 'boooyyyzzz' site?

Re: DeadKidz

hey I was surprised to find this thread. but i love hearing all the feedback. I just finished "field theory" a couple of weeks ago. It was my thesis film for SVA (school of visual arts). We just had a screening at the Loews on 34th st. (NYC) on a chrisitie projector. It was dope on the big screen but my school wouldn't let me show it as anamorphic so I had matte it out 4x3 and everything. Oh well. thanks for all the feedback. You never know how the audience is gonna react. Its been great so far. As for the guns, those were blank firing guns. They use an 8mm blank. We didn't always get the flash. It might of been cause we shot all that stuff at 1/60th. Also thanks for the comments on the acting. That was the part that I was the most nervous about. We were all first time actors and editing yourself acting can be a painful process.

well thanks again for checking it out

hey bigblack, who are you? thanks for post

Re: DeadKidz

Thanks for the reply Jesse.

Really solid and inspiring. Blanks! :o Awesome! So many obvious 'non actors' in shorts... The performances were really really good. Rough with some polishing needed but you can say that for half of Hollywood!

I look forward to more work from you guys.

Re: DeadKidz

The muzzle flashes are real. Those were theatrical blank pistols. The flash and report exit via a port in the top of the barrell.

Re: DeadKidz

I loved this - very nice work & the editing is superb 8)

Did you guys shoot this 24 p ?

Also I noticed the stutter effect on the running scenes in the woods - what shutter speed was that ?

Excellent job - I've seen quite a few shorts on this forum but this really did inspire me! :)

Would love to know or see more behind the scenes stuff ie: crew - setups etc.

Re: DeadKidz

Absolutely great little film well executed in all areas! Inspirational work guys. Too bad the film school wouldn't let you project it in the anamorphic frame though. How did the footage hold up on the big screen?

Would love to hear details about the technicals behind it. Some of those running scenes in the forest and in the open field were extremely clean looking. Steadicam, yes? The shutter flicker was nicely used. Hell, everything was nicely done.

Two thumbs up and a big toe from me!

Re: DeadKidz

Great short. Not only was the cinematography good, but it sounded good as well. How'd you guys record the dialogue?

Also I heard that if you shoot a blank gun firing and don't see the muzzle flash, you will see it on film and vice versa. I guess that goes for the 1/48th shutter speed though.

Re: DeadKidz

Very cool short. Looked amazingly nice. I remember seeing stills from this a while ago.

I also wanted to know what you guys used for the tracking shots in the woods.

:)

Re: DeadKidz

Props to the Fight Club feel and the ending Weezer montage. Looked great guys.

Me too. I was watching the camera track the two characters in the field and noticed a little black area creeping around in the corner. I thought it might have been from some kind of equipment in the way, but it could have also been an artifact from stabilization in post. Either way, it looks good. How'd you guys do it?

Re: DeadKidz

WOW. i have to say this is one of the best shorts I've EVER seen! It flowed real well, the lighting looked great, great composition of shots ect..... Couple of questions, what did effect did you use to get the beginning looking like it was old film skipping, also did you color correct a lot in post or is that how most of it really was? Third, what did you use for stabilization? I liked the way you used your sound in the final edit, it was one great short. Keep up the good work...

Re: DeadKidz

Does anyone know if Field Theory was shot with the DVX-100A or just the DVX-100?
