7D "Dead Batteries", Overheating? and Generic Batteries Oh My!!

Okay I've read most of the overheating threads and I'm not sure if the issue I'm having is a result of overheating or if there is another issue with the camera.

We're occasionally having problems with the camera flashing the battery icon when turning back on when the battery still has a charge... even putting in another battery doesn't help. On some of the occasions (if not all) it's happened after shutting the camera down after getting the overheating warning. The only thing I could think is that the camera isn't fully cooled, so just refuses to turn back on.

Is anyone else having this issue? Is it just related to the overheating problems?

Also has anyone else gotten any bogus generic batteries? I got 4 batteries and 2 chargers a few months back and 1 battery lasts about 5 minutes after a full charge and another doesn't even fit into the camera. I actually just stopped using them all together and am just using a couple genuine canon batteries for the moment.

The overheating issue is quite common to 5D/7D and T2i. T2i is worst because of the smaller and plastic casing.

I have the fully decoded LP-E8 battery for 7D and 5D.

They work just like the stock canon batteries. My wedding photographer is using them and no issue reported.

Thanks for the links guys. We had quiet a few days of overheating problems with the feature I'm working on. The film takes place in a school and we spent several days in hallways near the pool, which was humid as can be, so I know all about the overheating issue.

I just want to confirm that the little thing with the battery is normal and just a side effect of the camera being overheated?

my generic batteries have been as good as I can tell as the Canon.

Interestingly though I have a 7D which has NEVER had the overheating issue. I worked with it continuously on in the hot sun on 90 degree days for most of the day. My camera recently developed an err 80 issue (circuit board/shutter problem) and I sent it in to be fixed. I borrowed a friends camera and I had overheating issues galore on a normal day with shade. I think there are certain 7D's which are more prone to overheating than others.

good question, I wonder if it's the processors themselves or the battery that gives off the most heat
