Dance Recital!

I'm shooting for a dance recital pretty soon. I'm planning on making DVD's and I wanted to make sure that I had the settings right for the DVX100B.

I'm going to shoot 60i, 4:3

When I export/make the dvd do I need to use a deinterlacing filter at any point or do I leave it how it is?

Thanks

DVDs will handle 60i just fine, so there's no need to deinterlace.

However, if you're worried about interlacing, you can shoot 30p. It will edit without trouble in a 29.97 time line, will give you the same motion characteristics as 60i, and will keep interlacing out of the equation.

as a dvx100 newbie, please let me ask:

i see many recommendations for shooting 24p and 30p, why would someone want to shoot 60i(50i)?

thanks in advance to those who care to share.

60i is still the NTSC standard for SD video (50i is the PAL standard). It still applies in certain environments, especially news-gathering and the like.

Recommendations for 24p and 30p have their times and places. 24p is great if you want film-like motion, and if that is beneficial to telling the story. 30p is great for distribution targets that will feature progressive displays, such as DVD or the Internet, where the motion characteristics of 60i are preferable to those of 24p. in PAL world, there are only 50i and 25p.

The choice is totally aesthetic -- what you want it to look like. Any of them can serve any technical purpose (web, DVD, etc.); it's all about what you want the motion to be like.

So, yeah, 24p for cinematic-like motion; 60i for a "live" look. 30p for something in between if you like it.
