D90 Petition! Make Now!

i sent a msg to nikon rumors and I'm waiting for my dvinfo registration so i can post it there unless somebody beats me to it.

I sent word to engadget, creative cow and the D90 vimeo forum.

here's a draft msg, spread it around-

The D90 filmmakers at dvxuser have started a petition for Nikon to release a firmware update providing manual shutter and ISO control in d-movie mode.

There are hundreds, perhaps thousands of disgruntled D90 users who are ready to jump ship and buy a Panasonic GH1 if Nikon fails to respond to our demands.

You should put the petition at the beginning of a post, or a sticky. It kinda gets lost inside this thread.
 
Awesome, Let's get this thing viral.
Maybe someone could post a video titled "D90 manual shutter" or something and get some hits that way. Also, post the link in popular D90 videos' comments.
 
I emailed Nikon about some D90 fixes. Here is their response. Good luck on a petition!!

Yes I know. It was my lame attempt at making the point that NIkon or Canon could care less about a petition. Do people really think that Nikon did not talk about putting manual controls on the camera or many other things?

They will do what they want and what they think will make them the most money.
 
It wasn't so lame really. I think it would be pretty funny if Nikon Japan's default email reply was the tower of babel story.

I'm not disagreeing with you but I think most people understand the OBVIOUS financial drive and imperviousness of these corporations. The point of a petition? It's just a chance but at least a chance taken.

But I think the petition could have been worded differently, like having manual controls over liveview. Therefore it will add value to the primary usage of the SLR as a photo taking device.

ie: previewing what a photo will look like under certain iso's and shutter.

That the movie mode records the liveview is a bonus ;)

I do wonder if it required more coding to make it auto adjust than having one manually set it...

We're not stupid, we know we have next to no chance of slaying the corporate giant. But it still feels good standing in the shadow of the giant with your puny sword and having a go.

There must be some rule I am violating by asking people to sign a petition.

Whatever makes you feel good then do it. Just ask yourself if you owned Nikon what you would do if you got a petition from a group of people telling you how to run your company. Nikon and Canon just don't make cameras without thinking about it. "Man we forgot the manual controls!!"

The camera giants would have squashed Bucky Fuller.

It's called the customer, and some companies listen to them. :huh: Otherwise you end up like GM.
 
It is called Nikon and Canon. I've been watching people ***** about them for years. Maybe they listen maybe they don't. Do you think Nikon is going to change what they are doing for a few hundred people. Sorry but it is just not how the Japanese operate.

GM's has other problems
