(Link at Bottom of this post is the Petition for the D90!!!!)

Let's make a D90 Petition, here is one for the 5D Mark II. Let's go ahead and sign that as well.

http://www.definitionmagazine.com/cameras/canon5dpetition.htm

For Shiz! :costumed-smiley-047:

If we sign this petition, it will also send a message to Nikon. And if we start a petition for Nikon, that might also help. Hey why not? We deserve freakin manual control, because in theory that should be easier to allow and produce than auto.

EDIT:

YeeHaaNow Made a Petition, Please sign now to support independent, commercial, and a variety of other film makers. Even if you don't own a D90 yet please sign this.

"Sign here. TELL EVERYONE TO SIGN IT. LET'S DO THIS! I want manual controls...and you do too"

D90 Petition, takes 20 seconds. ----> http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/control-the-d90 " <--- Click here, and take 20 seconds to sign the petition.

(if anything, we're proving that we are a real online filmmaker community)

sign the WE WANT MAUNAL CONTROL FOR THE D90 PETITION. Even if you don't own one. Help us out.

I'm sure their next generation cameras will be better, as much has been said in interviews. Not sure why they'd rebuild cameras when it isn't going to make them a profit.

Besides, what are you going to do otherwise... not buy cameras anymore?

It can't hurt to sign it. And at least it might help get the ball rolling for manual controls a little quicker. I think there is no excuse for lack of manual controls. Even if they charged 20 bucks for the firm ware update, I'd happily pay for it. (Don't tell Nikon that part)

Even Canon knows that if they piss off a bunch of customers they'll lose their #1 spot.

Well I'm not buying a Canon camera anytime soon due to their lame corporate tactics. If I have the need for a better camera I'll save up for a RED, or just rent a RED. But in the mean time, it would be nice if Nikon gave D90 owners a manual control firmware update.

RED is the opposite of Canon, IMO. And would rather support a camera manufacture that is not too big for itself.

Sorry, but petitions are, generally speaking, useless.

Same with posting comments on a thread.

If you don't want to sign it, or make one for the D90, who cares, just don't tell me.

I personally think a petition would not hurt the cause, and if anything, help it.

With RED and Panasonic listening to us, the other two companies in reference are bound too.

If we spend time talking in a forum, why not go ahead and make our opinions official and send it to Corporate Headquarters. I would find it hard to believe if Corporate did not talk about a petition actually. That's the type of stuff they are more likely to talk about, rather than a forum, imo.

By no means am I discouraging anyone from signing the petition. I was stating my personal opinion, and you have the right to not agree with it. Everything is context -- as Car3o noted, the Canon petition didn't help. I understand and respect your sentiment, but saying "just don't tell me" is not exactly the morally superior argument.

One does not yet know the effects of a petition in such a short amount of time.

Petitions are just not used to for the sole purpose of immediate change, they are also just used as raising awareness.

So while a petition might not have immediate effects, it creates a single source to reference for future use, thus causing ripple effects.

So why not take the time to sign a petition? It takes twenty seconds.

this looks like another petition for Canon, there was one about a month after their release and Vincent's blog was basically a petition to add 24p...so i'd much rather waste 20seconds posting on this thread than to actually sign one. there's also aids awareness going on over in Africa, but nobody seems to care about that.

I personally don't think the GH1 would have existed if it wasn't for stuff like this. If Canon is not listening, their competition is. 'Count on it.'

Like I say, it creates a reference, whether for Canon or their competition.

Boo Ya, GH1! Do you think the GH1 would be existent if not for the online opinions of the D90 and 5D II? It's hard to say, but I would be inclined to think that they were greatly influenced by blogs, online petitions, and the such.

And this is simple economics. If there is enough demand, there will be supply. I'm not saying the petition will cause birds to sing, but it does not hurt, and if anything would help.

That I don't know. But hopefully someone here would have the know how. If not, I'll try to look into more.

There is an interview somewhere with someone at some place, I think Canon. In it he talks about the lack of manual controls, and states that this was a first generation attempt; they didn't realize how much serious video creators would latch on to it, and plan to open it up a lot more in the next releases. Actually upgrading the camera would be a very large and very expensive feat, but they do know what needs to be done. I'm not saying it'll hurt, either; but you've already signed a less organized petition every time you talk about the failings of the product. They hear you.

We need to start a petition to get every dvx user to sign the canon and nikon petitions. there are only 900 signatories to the canon petition but there are thousands of dvx members.

If it's not the Japanese way then what is a more effective tactic to persuade them?

Nikon isn't going to feel any pressure. Write a letter, call, send a email, sign a petition. It is always good to let them know, but they are going to do what they want and when they want.
