Just a head's up, don't recall this being discussed here, but...
If you need to remotely trigger video on the D7100, it's doable cheap.
Find the menu item that sets the shutter release for video instead of stills, and get a $9 wired remote from Amazon/etc. It will start/stop video AND do half-press AF if you use that. (You should consider adding this menu item to "my menu" so you can access it quickly, more on this below..)
Bonus: get a set of male & female 1/8 stereo jacks and "split" the cable, cut it and solder a male and female on each cut - so that you need to plug the 1/8 jacks together. Then you can use a 1/8 stereo male-to-male extension for cranes, etc. (The connector to the camera is odd, google search just returns dozens of people trying to find one).
Good thing about this setup - if you switch to stills and try to hit the shutter, you get an on-screen reminder that your shutter is set for video. I can't tell you how many still gigs I've used the self-timer to dial in lighting (when there's no assistant, I just take stills of myself), and when the talent/client arrives, I forget it's on timer, and think "**** my shutter's not firing... wait, there it goes, WTF..." I must have pre-alzheimers, but I really confess I do that a lot. So the on-screen reminder plus having that control in "my menu" at least makes my life easier...
