D7100 available for preorder

A short extract from the footage I shot last week in France

Very nice video. It looks to be much sharper than I have seen in some test. I think it might be due to the codec, because in most of the test it was on wide shots with lot of detail and it looked really soft. I would really like to see some test with an external recorder.

In my case, I think I would have gone Nikon d7100 ninja2 if there was no blackmagic pocket cam. I am still getting the d7100 as a backup to my D800, but the investment in an external recorder is no more a priority.

Thank you. I was thinking of getting the Sound Devices Pix 220i and I would like to know if somebody has any experience of working with it and how it would pair with the D7100.

Unfortunately I don't know. I have SD mixpre and was thinking of buying a recorder to record from the hdmi output. Unfortunately most people that test only do it on either very static scene or shallow dof one where the codec might not be put to stress. In my case, I am more thinking of getting the BMC pocket cam, while this video does make you think of the true potential of the D7100 coupled with an external recorder.

I think that the D7100 could give great results if coupled with an external recorder, a member of the forum did some tests but I am not aware of any clip that was published. The BMC looks great and I'd love to try it out with some vintage 16mm cine nikkor glass.

Just a little aperture tip. When using Movie Mode, we can not adjust aperture. However, be advised we can use EV to adjust exposure and lighting while in Movie Mode.

The test vids I've shot are way sharper than that. Those look like something out of the D90 (also had that). I'd say the D7100 is slightly sharper than the D7000, but that's really the only difference. Still have compression artifacts and slight moire. The built-in mics aren't that great, either.

The GH3 has cadence issues so it's a no go for me. I'm considering shooting my feature with a D7100/D5200 combo and Iscoramas but I'm waiting to see if there's any surprises at NAB before I make a decision. I'm really liking the images from the D5200, the colour, resolution, and dynamic range blows the 5D away. The D5200/7100 has the most cinematic images I've seen from a DSLR, more 16mm than 35mm but that's fine for me. The rolling shutter is the only thing that bugs me but with the right amount of stabilization and lensing it hasn't been a huge problem.

In what way do you say that its closer to 16mm than 35mm? Do you mean the color and detail? I really love the look and feel of Super16. The way detail and grains and color make up the image, its wonderful. Can you please explain what you meant?
