D7000 Final cut Pro

no, which is my whole point. prores timelines are realtime regardless of what you drop on them.

I've never seen that, but I'd like to know how to do it. Can you describe your workflow? D7000 H264s have red render bars on my prores timelines.

too bad. i haven't tried d7000 footage so you're probably right. i never had any problem with other h.264 footage though, or any other codec for that matter, even full res redcode, image sequences and such are realtime here, quad 2.4, raid 0, and ati 4870. sometimes not the full framerate but always without rendering.

Could the conversion to Prores be done in MPEG Streamclip?

yes it can. i use mpeg streamclip for most conversions. i mix AVCHD, XDCAM & H.264. many times i bring all things to XDCAM since thats my main camera. also as a good alternative to prorez 422 is prorez "LT" to save a little HD space and the quality is still very good. mpeg streamclip is fast and works quietly in the background with no real drag on your computer.

and if you have fast drives and many cores streamclip can process several clips at once, which pretty much locks up your computer instead but it's obviously much faster. so can compressor but that requires qmaster configuration.
