Hi friends,

just purchased my first DSLR. the nikon d70. if i get an external monitor to attach to the shoe at the top will i be able to view REALtime what im shooting. I bought this camera not knowing that the lcd on the back does not let you preview until the shot is taken. I use nikon ai-s primes so its even more hard to dial everything in if i cant see what the F im shooting, lol.

if an external monitor allows for realtime viewing than whats something small that you recommend? the V-out is a weird connection also. what type of jack is that? sd , analog for sure? is it a pc mini plug though?

any help is much appreciated,

thanks,
Chris

Everything you want to know should be available with a couple google searches, or simply by looking through your manual (or downloading a PDF copy).

I don't believe the D70 shoots video at all; check the manual;

I don't believe the D70 has HDMI, but it should come with a mini-to-RCA cable for connecting to an SD monitor - check the box (and the manual);

You should be able to connect it to any TV with an RCA input and test for yourself - but if the camera doesn't have a live-view function, you're probably out of luck to monitor while shooting and may only be able to review in the TV;

Many Nikons can be controlled via the USB port with Nikon's software. Again, check the manual.

Hi I've owned a D70 its nice camera, but it has no live view function or movie mode. The video connector is for displaying picture on a display after you have taken them. The D70 is four generations back D70>D80>D90>D7000 (current prosumer model)
