D3200 Anyone?

Just wondering if anyone is using the D3200? I've been considering picking one up, but the lack of a swivel LCD has been keeping me from pulling the trigger.

Any thoughts? Thanks mucho!

Samuel, I thought about the 5N, but the recording time/over heating issue is a deal breaker for me. I do a lot of documentary work and that means long........ takes, LOL.

Aliasing and moire doesn't drive me crazy, so I do like the idea of the D3200. But I just don't know how I'd deal with a non-flip out screen. If it means getting an external monitor, with brackets and power supply, it becomes a whole different animal in terms of both price and size.

I downloaded and saw nex5n, t3i and d3200 footage. the 5n has more moire and more aliasing than d3200. t3i is the worst for me in image quality. I would like to see high iso footage from d3200 to verify if it wort the money. but to be honest i am not considering buy it. d3200 is almost perfect dslr for video considering its features and price. but it lacks the flip lcd, so imagine you shotting from low or high angles, it will be annoying. also an external lcd does not make sense for me, heavy, more money, more volume to carry... no way to go. so i will wait for the nikon d5200, probably it will be a great camera, it will be a d3200 with flip lcd. i like the idea of APS size sensor for video. By now there is no better option than GH2. lets see what will come with the GH3 and The D5200. Also the D600 and d6 full frame are coming, but it seems they will lack the flip lcd also, so no way to go.

* The 5N is NOT suited for long takes. It can stay on stand-by for a long time without overheating (unlike my old Canon), but once you hit record you get overheating in just a few minutes.

* If the D3200 has less aliasing/moire than the 5N, then it's basically not a problem: the 5N is a whole lot better than my old Canon in terms of aliasing/moire. Yes, they're still there, but they don't show up nearly as often, I've nearly forgotten about them, they're unlucky accidents now, not the norm. Check the tests on my Flaat Shootout 2012.
But I wouldn't be so sure there's less aliasing/moire on the D3200 than on the 5N, from the tests I've seen online it seemed much closer to the old Canons...

I have one and I am very happy with the result. I haven't used it for a paid project yet. But I have lined up for one in September and will let you all know the result. I own a HPX370, also at the college where I teach we have Canon t3i. I think Nikon produces nice results and because I had nikon lenses I went with this cheap but very capable camera. I have to admit it is horrible in low light. To many pixels? maybe... But it is small, light and full manual .. good audio with external mic. if it fits in your budget and you can't afford 7D, 5D, D800 then do with this.

Horrible in low light? mmm at what iso would be the acceptable limit for this camera? i thought the sensor is as good as the sony 5n in terms of iso performance

(on the 5N, ISO 3200 looks great on the screen, but if it's underexposed it will look like crap at high res; I'd get to ISO 1600 confortably)

I had a similar issue when deciding my camera selection, about 1 year ago.
At the time, it was considering 550D, 600D, 60D, D7000, Sony Line, and finally the GH2 with regards to budget and size.
The pure pro's of the GH2 just demolished the other cameras.
All the standard video options (1080p, 1080i, 720p / 60fps), flip out screen, live histogram, continuous recording, full manuel control, very little aliasing, and of course the modded patches!
The clear winner, budget wise is the GH2. However, now that Canon and Nikon are rolling out updates... THAT, hopefully will give you a lot more to think about in the VERY near future.
I've got my eye on what Canon and Panasonic do in the sub $1000 market... i just dont think Nikon can offer very much at the moment, to top their D800 model, just yet.

I've researched this for the D3200 and came up w/ "Yes/No." "Yes" b/c it can be set to have no overlays, but "No" b/c its resolution is less than 1080 X 1920. :(

Blue,

Do you have any examples of D3200 footage? All of the footage I've seen on the web, even on Nikon's own website, looks pretty awful :(.
