D300s video-in HD quality

It looks like that train clip changes exposure between the 09-10 second marks. Not that this means anything, just sayin....

Game on if it does, huh?

The codec might still be too weak for my liking, I'd like to see 75Mbps mjpeg like on the pentax K7. At times the D90 only records 7Mbps.

And it's still only 720p. While the jello might have been improved it probably isn't any better than the MKII and we don't know if it's gonna overheat.

Well, both clips LOOK very good to me. No jaggies that I can see...very little rolling shutter. Of course, I don't peep at the pro level you guys do. I did see the exposure "jump" that Jim mentioned. Yea, it might still overheat, and probably does still limit recording to five minutes (for whatever idiotic reason). I guess we'll have to w8 until one of you gurus lays hands on one before we really begin to find out because I don't think Nikon will ever address these concerns directly.

There are two problems I see whenever a company such as Nikon, or Canon for that matter, try to present a demo video of their current vdslr camera. One, the video has been compressed from the original version so artifacts, and other unwanted effects could be introduced into the video when it is finally presented online, and two, if they want to show us a video of a camera demonstrating it's video capabilities, then treat it like a video camera and show some zooms, pans, tilts, steadicam work, tracking shots, etc... You'll notice the demo video of the d300s by Ami Vitale was clearly shot by someone who is a photographer first, and a videographer second. I don't remember the last time I worked on a video project that required me to lock the camera down on the tripod for the entire time.

Nikon is headed in the right direction, just not where we want it to be yet. I just got a HV40 to hold me over. Going to blow the dust off my LetusMini and see what I can come up with.

It's been so long I forgot thankfully

aww your getting all soft after a month or so with the MarkII

I periodically fire up the D90 LV and grab something and then all is remembered. I am however putting lots of miles on its shutter doing timelapses so it still is getting some good use.

The list for Nikon to fix before beating the GH1 or 5DmkII might show up in the D700x. But at least the D300s demo clips look promising. But I've seen some really good D90 work also...
