D300s and FCP

Can any of you FCP users help me out here. Can you capture video from the D300s into FCP (I have FCP 6) then just drag the footage to the timeline and edit? I also want to send it back out as a .mov file in QT pro. I guess you can do that with the 7D. But I think it is H.264. I believe the Nikon is AVI.

Hi,

Do you have any hardware, I did some testing the other day and on a system with a BlackMagic MultiBridge I was able to get RT playback with picture out to the reference monitor in FCP, in Premiere it is full RT without any conversion in Windows but not Mac (I think this has something to do with the Decklink supporting MJPEG as one of the CODECS it can capture and render too). I did a more detailed blog post here www.tdepost.com

fcp plays avi's just fine, and in realtime with effects and video out on a fast computer. you will get fewer compatibility problems and slightly better performance if you convert first. i edit the avi's all the way, no need to convert for that, then convert to prores for the online.

as for capturing there's no such step involved. just import the files, or open them in qt player or compressor, or streamclip for that matter, to convert.
