Cutting MXF files down to size

I have a 4GB large P2 clip which has content I will never use. The camera was left on too long during a timelapse project, and the latter half of the clip is unusable, about 2GB worth. I would like to cut the file into two parts, keeping the good stuff and deleting the 2GB unusable, to save hard drive space. I have not been able to find any kind of software which will do this. My understanding is that if I create in and out points in FCP while logging and transfer, the original 4GB MXF file(s) will remain intact. I tested this, and it appears to be working as expected, the file is still 4GB. I did not see any way to shorten clips in P2CMS. Any solutions?

Click on the clip in FCP and go to File>Media Manager.

Then just create a new copy with "Delete unused media from duplicated clip" selected.
