Custom White Balance for B&W Shooting?

Hi, I had an idea the weekend I lent my t2i to a friend. I'm thinking instead of paying for colored b&w filters, I could just do a custom WB to skew the image towards a specific color.

If I know from the outset that I'm going to convert to b&w during color correction, could this potentially work in the same way that traditional photographic b&w filters do?

I'd say no.

I would suggest you shoud aim to produce as good as possible colour images with good contrast and correctly exposed to ensure you have detail in shadow and highlights and then these will convert nicely in post to b&w.

to get that black and white effect a la film noir, you really should focus more on lighting. black and white filming needs stronger lights because it relies on these key lights to separate the planes, where as compared to color, one would rely on color.

then yea, find a film stock picture style online for black and white filming. try some forums where members put up their picture styles.
