custom white balance a canon hf s10 - white paper or lastolite grey card???

Toolman here.

Can you use a lastoilte gray card (or pop up fabric gray card) to custom white balance the canon hfs10 or are you stuck with using a white sheet of paper.?

Is white is a pre requisite color to white balance the camera. Thanks in advance
