CS5 File Management Question???

I shoot with the GH1, which means most of my audio is of course captured onto a separate device. In both Avid and Final Cut Pro, there is a way for one to sync and link the separate "good" audio to the video then delete the old audio and save this clip to a "bin" where the new audio is linked the video (sync>link>save). This is a very common practice in the editing process with movies shot on actual film where all audio needs to be synced up.

Does the newest release of Adobe Premiere CS5 have the ability to do this in some fashion??? I know CS4 did not. Otherwise it would be sloppy mess on the timeline or every time I opened up my project I would have to resync my audio or an even bigger time waster would be having to sync the audio and export each clip and then editing the new media.

I am impressed with CS5's ability to handle processor intensive codecs but without good file management, this would seem like a useless NLE for hdslr filmmakers.

Why not just sync the clips and then link them? Just highlight the clips in sync... right click> "Group" Now they are connected.
You wouldn't need to delete or make a new clip at all. Just open a new sequence and use the grouped clip in it's sequence as a file in the new sequence.

The sequence could be the grouped synced file.

I understand how to group clips in the timeline. My question was, after grouping the clip with the new audio, can I save that clip with the good audio in a bin labeled "synced footage". Having a bunch of sequences with grouped clips all over the timeline seems like a sloppy way to handle a lot of footage (documentary work), especially when in Final Cut and Avid one can save clips with a new name (synced) and manage them in bin as opposed to in the timeline with multiple sequences distinguishing between "scenes". Has Premiere yet to evolve past these "work arounds"? Professional film editors would never stand for this, hence why hardly any use Premiere.

I want to use it, but without good clip management, it would be a nightmare.

Any idea???

I'm still missing it... Sync the clips in a sequence. Name the sequence however you like. Close it. Move the sequence to the bin of your choice. Open a new sequence for editing then drop the named synced sequence into the timeline as a clip.

It's the exact same thing but without making an entirely new file.

'sequence' = 'synced footage'
the answer to your question is 'yes', but Adobe calls it grouping not syncing.

Alright, not sure if anyone is quite understanding my question (it is not easy to explain with out just showing).

For example lets say... I just got done shooting a film and I want to manually sync up all my video with the separate "clean" audio in the timeline (say I have 68 shots that need to be synced). After syncing the new audio with the video and grouping them, I delete the old audio. I then want to place each synced and grouped clip into a separate bin (scene 1, scene2, etc.) outside of that timeline. I have not begun editing so a sequence is of no use to me right now, I am just wanting to begin the organization process.

The issue I am running into is when I want to take the clip off of the time line and create a clean organized work flow with bins. When I try and drag the clip with the new audio attached/grouped and the into a bin possibly named "scene 1" the old audio is still being reference with the clip because that is what it was recorded with...

Is there a way in CS5 Premiere to get the clip to stay attached with new audio OUTSIDE OF A TIMELINE, I UNDERSTAND HOW TO GROUP AND SYNC CLIPS.

tuprware, is that right clicking and pressing "nest" will do?

Yes. Drag the synced sequence to a bin. To handle the new synced sequence like it is a clip you need to SHIFT+double click on it, which will load it into the viewer so you can set in/outs just like it is a clip.
