CS4 just WON AVCHD editing!!

Yeah, it looks like AVC-Intra didn't make it. Disappointing. Especially with the massive improvements in AVC-HD support, I was looking forward to how they implemented AVC-Intra. I guess we'll have to wait for 4.2 or whatever comes next.

Why is the codec even there then?
They had it integrated and running at NAB. It looks like for the release version they took out the codec support, but they left in the editing mode. My guess is that they intended to "disappear" the AVC-Intra support and someone just missed that step.

The codec isn't there...the preset is.

My guess would be that they didn't feel enough people had a need for them to license the codec for all the users who already had version 4.

MAybe they will put it in version 5, or wait untill Panasonic makes them a deal (like hey, you can use the codec free, if you support it, and they say yeah...= free update) Who knows...we can only speculate.

I thought the codec was there, but tried to import some footage, and it didn't work.
I also could not play the footage in Windows media player..so the codec was not included.

THen I downloaded the codec, and verified by now playing the file in Windows media player (or maybe that was a cineform converted version, i forget) THen tried to import that footage under the intra setting, and it too failed.

Ok...

so previously with my CS4 4.0 I had the AVCHD 1080 presets..

now after updating to CS4 4.1 I have lost my AVCHD preset and is now only left with DVCPROHD, DVCPRO50 and the rest of the SD and Mobile presets.

I try updating again, and it just says no more new updates.

What's going on?!?!

I want my AVCHD presets back!!! and i need the 720 60 preset.

You need the full version, not the trial.
The version without support are trial versions as they do not pay licensing rights for codecs on said versions.

GH: I meant to say the codec preset.

But my point is why put any reference at all in there if the release doesn't support AVCIntra.

IT seems as if they were working on it, but just didn't put it in at the last minute.
Maybe the license was $50 per instance and they felt most were just upgrading, not buying new so it wasn't worth it.

Maybe not enough cameras to justify.

It seems that the only complaints I have heard were people wanting AVCHD, not intra.

Maybe some third party will offer suport via an add in card so they were letting them do it, due to it needing more bandwidth that a typical computer would not be able to process anyway (at this time).

Who knows.

Just a random question for those experiencing the jumping frames issue, did you try deleting the media cache, resaving the project, and then re-rendering? I used to run into issues in CS2 with Premiere not rendering transitions or rendering sections of video strangely, and to fix it I would just delete the cache and try again.

Be carefull, one of the cache areas contain registration info (can't remember which)
and you may have to re-register by placing a phone call to adobe.

Maybe that is the media cache database... humm.

I was thinking more along the lines of the "Media Cache Files" folder that is put into your project folder by premiere when you create a new project? I would hose the preview files and media cache files and that usually took care of it.

OK..I was having such a time in Vegas..tryed the trial version of CS4 and then did the updates. It WILL NOT ALLOW ME TO IMPORT AVCHD. Says its not supported. When you select new project the capture formt choise is only DV. Is this normal. After the update is 4.1. The only thing I could do is transcode to prohd. This sucks

Trial versions do not have an MPEG encoding/decoding license....therefore, trial versions only allow the standard DV formats.

Adobe offers a money-back guarantee...if you're serious about switching platforms, you should just buy the program and call Adobe if you change your mind.

Yeah bummer - no AVCHD support in the trial. I wish they made that more clear.

When you are on the download page, it is listed as, "The trial version of Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 does not include some features that depend on software licensed from parties other than Adobe. For example, some codecs for encoding MPEG formats are available only with the full version of these products. HDV, XDCAM, and AVCHD formats and sequence presets are not supported in the trial for both Mac OS and Windows®." No scrolling required, it's just 7 or 8 lines down below the "Download" button.

Aside from putting it in flashing bright red text, I'm not sure what you expect in terms of additional clarity.

Sorry, I've heard this one for a few years - ever since HDV was included in Premiere Pro 1.5 - so I don't feel too bad when folks say they just wish Adobe was clearer on the trial software terms, and there's not even a full page of write-up right on the download page. 20 or 30 seconds of reading, max.

That being said, yes, it is unfortunate that these technologies aren't available in the trial, would probably help sell a few more copies for Adobe I would guess, but they've obviously been unable to convince their codec suppliers to give them a break on the trial usages. Oh well.

I wonder...how do they expect you to try it with out the features you want to see. OK..lets go test drive a corvett but with a voltswagon beatle motor... LOL

Eh....apples and oranges. Besides, people who want to buy a Corvette usually just buy it 'cause they know that's what they want.

I don't know what to tell you...yeah, it'd be nice to see how it works in the trial without ANY limitations. But...that's what the 30-day money back guarantee is about. If you download the trial and see that all your tools are where you want them to be, customization options look okay, etc....well, you buy it, then if it handles your format of choice like a bear then you call Adobe and get your money back.

Most Corvette dealers wouldn't be so kind :)

At first glance, flawless is right.

This is the real deal.

I dragged the preview window to be a full 1280x720. Put some 720/24p footage on there and it played back in real time, just fine. Drag it into the timeline, and play it. But -- it was low quality. So I wanted to see how much of a performance hit I'd take by moving it to "best quality" -- and the answer is: NONE. Plays full-screen 720/24p at full frame rate and best quality.

So, for grins, I tried a new 720/60p project. And yep, it handles 720/60p AVCHD in full quality, in the original native codec, real-time.

And this is playing off a 2.4GHz dual-core laptop. I'm not rocking some quad-core i7 desktop with a fire-breathing graphics card here. This is a year-old laptop with an NVidia 140 graphics card.

Very, very, very promising!
How is the scrubbing on your laptop? We are shooting 720/24p this weekend and then I get to edit it (I hope) on my year-old laptop with dual-core 2.0GHz and 2GB of RAM. No fire-breathing graphics card here, either :)

Your graphics card is going to be important in the equation; I'm not using an Intel GMA950, I actually have an nVidia in there. I don't know what it'd be like without the nVidia card.

Scrubbing is fine. 720/24 and 720/60 scrub just fine.

I also have an NVIDIA, a 7150M, and am wondering how much RAM your laptop has? Mine currently has 2GB RAM with Windows Vista 32-bit, am planning to upgrade to 4GB RAM in the near future. Thanks!
