Crutchfield has 42 GH1's as of 08:00 Pacific time

Dang. I'm out of town for one day and this happens! *sigh* The wait continues.

Um... no. We didn't say yes, then no, then maybe, then no, then yes again. ;-)

Personally I still have a problem with the mud issue, but others have shown that it can be worked around. I was also waiting to see what Nikon and Canon offered, and by accounts its going to be a snooze fest, so given the cost of the GH1 it seems like the way to go for now.

Now if I could only find one....

Car3o. Whatever dude. Believe what you will. Yeah, I changed my mind... once.

By the way, Kholi what ever happened to all those GH1 tests films you shot (action film, talking heads, beer commercial)?

What mud issue? That whole scenario was made out of mass hysteria. There is plenty of stuff out there to show how great this camera performs, if you really know what you are doing. And many of us saw that from the beginning. If only I could get my hands on a darn camera.

As much as I love this camera, there is no question that mud is an issue. Anything handheld, or any zooming often results in mud.

Heineken is done. They're about to post it soon. Action test looks bad but it's on YouTube. Talking heads I have no idea what they did with it.

I'm trying to find a us gh1. Missed Slices cause I hesitated.

Put it on a tripod and don't zoom. Look at how stabilize all the t.v. series and big movies are, that should be rule number one. Get that camera as steady as gravity allows.

And no, it was not "hysteria" its a real issue verified by Barry Green, Phillip Bloom, Stu Maschwitz, among others.

And as they all said, don't whip that camera around and it will be reduced. Again, there is plenty of samples around to show how the 'mud' can be avoided as much as possible. I suggest that people sit down and log into hulu.com and check out as many t.v. series and movies as possible and you will be surprised, and you shouldn't, to see how the cameras are stabilized and how little fast panning is really done, especially whip panning. There are plenty of tracking, crane and handheld stabilizer rig shots. Actually a whole lot. All done elegantly and professionally. Is great research to see how the pros in this business do their work and done properly the GH1 would shine, especially in 1080p.

The compression hit is there. Period.

Acknowledge it or not, no big movie or tv comparison will change that you will either move the camera as much as you want and pay the price or keep it locked down and pay the price.

Well, this guy must either have a magical GH1 camera that shoots with virtually no "mud" or "jello" in 1080p or a magical steadycam, and maybe it is the latter because he makes it himself. Only a few of those camera movements mixed with locked shots and some traking shots are good enough to keep the story moving. If this test is an indication it shows that in the right hands the GH1 can shine at 1080p.

I think this guy also got one from the same magical batch:

No, John, it's simply that he isn't moving the camera and when he DOES the mud is obvious. This isn't about professionals versus dinsosaurs or goblins that like to eat light switches.

It's a fact that the compression scheme used for the GH-1 leaves something to be desired for those of us who want the freedom to shoot whatever. Nothing you fathom up, no matter how off-topic it is, will change that.

There are some people that are going to be bothered by it regardless of if you just have to not move the camera or move it very slowly. It's a valid concern and the footage you've posted doesn't invalidate it at all.

Sorry John, there's mud all over that example you posted:

Even the water is blocky and full of compression artifacts. John by your logic, as long as I never need to stop my car, not having brakes won't be a problem. ;-)

Anyway, we've already had this debate. Yes, there are ways around it (as I said in my earlier post), which is why I'm willing to get the GH1 now.

Wait, how can you compare Youtube clips to real clips? of course there are blocky artifacts.
