Crows Landing

Re: Crows Landing

Really nice Drew. You got me hooked from the first frame. Now I want to know what happend...
Hope you can post the entire film...

Re: Crows Landing

I didn't realize that people would want to see the entire thing. By the end of the night I'll try and have the whole short on the site. Thanks for the interest.

Re: Crows Landing

>:( Alright, now how am i supposed to head back to work and NOT wonder what happened! Please post the whole short, we really want to see it. Hey great job for your first try!

Two snaps in a Z formation! hehe

Re: Crows Landing

VERY cool, great job! Excellent story/concept. (lose the 2 minute link so it doesn't give the ending away  :)

It looks as if the clouds are receding back from the "time tear" perfectly (circular) in the field, was that an effect and/or intentional?

Anyway, again, cool concept and it leaves a wide open door to expand on the story (the driver breaking the cycle somehow, origins of the "tear", who are the people behind the alarm, etc).

Re: Crows Landing

Thanks nullphonic. Yeah I should lose the link, I might do that after this post.

The clouds moving was something I did in AE. I wanted it to be suddel when the distortion came on full strength. Mainly because I don't think things need to be slapped over peoples' heads all the time.

After I wrote this short I really didn't want to do anything more with it. Like explain what everything was or anything like that. Mainly because I just don't have the time to spend doing anything more with it.

Hopefully in the next couple months I'll has some footage of this new short that I'm working on. Almost done writing it and I have the big locations ready to go and for free...kind of. I just need to film a wedding for the manager at the place for everything to be okay. The only problem is the small location might be a *****...like they always are.

Well anyway, thanks again.

Re: Crows Landing

Yeah, the concept is really cool... i'm happy to see the whole short.

I don't think you need to touch on the concept or story anymore, just leaving it the way it is seems fine to me. I get the closure that it's a cycle and it doesn't need to end...

I think though with the portal, it would be awesome if the guy's hand is above the backside of it... would make it much more 3 dimensional. Would take some time to rotoscope the time he's over the portal however... i suppose there'd be an easier way to do it, but I can't think of one...

Re: Crows Landing

There's always more that can be done. I guess the thing is to just leave it alone when you say your done with it. Plus the effects work really isn't my thing. I enjoy learning it but it would have been nice to have someone just doing that. But I was under the gun to get it done in time so I just learned AE and did it myself. That's why it only looks okay.

I can't wait to get started on the next project. This next one I'm going to be testing filters and stuff like that to see what I like. Looking to get a dark edgy look because its going to be a little creepy.

Re: Crows Landing

Great for a first short Drew. I know how it feels as I am going to begin my first soon. I'm sure you've learned a lot from this first one and they will keep getting better from now on.

I was going to comment on it but I don't have much room to talk as I havn't made anything yet.

Any camera add-ons used?

Re: Crows Landing

No camera add-ons at all...it was right out of the box. I did learn a lot on this short and I had a lot of fun doing it. I hope you have as much fun on your first project as I did on mine. If your going to shoot on the freeway watch out for the CHP. They don't like you on their freeway doing anything but driving.

Re: Crows Landing

I think the music makes this short. Was it an original composition? What was it done on?

Re: Crows Landing

Yes it was an original compostion and it was done it two weeks to meet a deadline. Music really makes any film come alive. I'm not sure what program was used in the creation of the music. I can find out, if you want.

Re: Crows Landing

The score was done with Digital Performer and a Roland JV2080 sound module. Of course the person that scored the film was the real reason why it turned out so good.
