how do i make the top and bottom black "crop" marks the same tone of black that the natural widescreen of the camera is?

i mean when i cropped this short i made, at the right angles looking at the lcd monitor i can see that its black but a lighter shade, like it has more grey in it, and it looks like 2 lines on the top and bottom...

how do i fix this so that its the same tone?

anyone know why?

its like i can see the original 1:85 border, and then my 2:35 border is a lighter shade of black that doesnt match making it look like 2 borders top and bottom...

i have tried adobe effects>crop, i have tried the motion effects, the titler effects, none look right...

help is much appreciated

Your posts are a bit befuddling...have you placed on the timeline a solid video in the shade you want and the dimensions you want, while keeping your clip confined to the smaller dimensions?

ok basically when somebody crops video, they take the 1:85 and crop a percent off, so that the black bars come closer together giving the more "anamorphic" effect, but just by chopping video off...

when i try to do this in any way, it shows the original black borders of the canon 7d (1:85) and then i see my crops which are like a dark dark, greyish black, thus 2 different black bars, the crop color bars dont match...

The 7d video's aspect ratio is not 1:85, it's 1.78:1.

But regarding your complaint of different shades...when you render to 16x9 you'll only see "your" shade of black from the cropped clip to the edge of the frame.

well i rendered the video out to a .avi and .mpg they both show 2 shades

change the resolution settings so an aspect ratio of 2.35 or 2.4. sequence settings usually.(just to be clear, you change the height and width pixel value)

then, if it looks weird, you might need to adjust the video size or zoom to 100%. that will give you a video without black borders or a letterbox.

and in reality, if the black border does not match your screen black(if it's more than one really tiny fine step), you need to calibrate your monitor
