Critique My Class Project Please

Since this was a school project you could get similar or better music over at jamendo.com for nothing but a creative commons artist credit at the end. Another music source is over at http://www.audionetwork.com for a home/student license for $.83. If you are going to be a responsible filmmaker you have got to do this part right. IMO the instructor should make this part of the grade.

Kyle I think most points of consideration others have already hit you with.

Quite simply, it was a sombre piece that really didnt show the viewer anything other than she was stuck alone. Nor were we given any reason to care. I can tell you this would have grabbed me more if: she thought there was a ghost in the house and bf isnt coming home; that her sister dropped around to tell her that her bf was cheating on her and then she gets the message from her bf, that.... anything that people can relate to that will give us cause to "be on her side", and this will also serve to drive her character into some form of action. Feeling sombre and brushing teeth, going for a run, making eggs; just doesnt take us anywhere and I assure you the audience wants to be taken somewhere.

Its when you get the above right that your composition will start to have real effect. For example in your piece in almost every shot we're looking down on her - now that may have been a conscious decision on your part, but the question to be asked is - does it serve the story? This needs to be asked of every scene, every moment that you show us. How does it help your story?

Just some food for thought.
