i took some video of my family and some friends two days ago. it is very amateurish looking...and i know its not great, but i really want to improve my video skills like photography,. so was wondering if i could get some advice

i've only started to get interested in video recently, and have had some luck making a few clips here and there. so its just a hobby (will never get seriously into it, but still want to make better video though)..

i did color correcting in fcp., i spent more time on the first parts of the video with color correcting and getting stuff 'right', and toward the end i just got lazy... so i do think the first part is better than the second.

i think the main thing is camera shake (which i find extremely hard to control on d90, as the footage was all handheld)

i'm also not good at taking video, and really want to improve.

lenses used:

50mm 1.8
35mm 1.8
18-55 zoom (the clip wasn't included in the video)
55-200mm zoom (the first three clips)

thanks!

pretty good for all hand held, but sometimes it was painfully obvious you needed a tripod (first few opening shots especially)

Looks like some shots you forgot to lock AE exposure so the lighting was fluttering around.

Nice shots, id say a few are a bit overexposed, but on the whole seems like you have a good eye.

good looking family.

jon!

some shoots looked really good. I wish you would have keep it on the sunset ocean scene. Look very good. I'd get some of the shots in focus before you started taking the video.

thanks for the feedback :)

the more i watch the video, the less i seem to like it. so i took it down, and replaced it with this little segment i shot at the florida aquarium (just some 'video snaps'

as for the vacation video, i'll try to edit it better, and include some other interesting clips or something until i get it right. and if i like the result, i'll post that up too!

thanks again jon and zim :)
