GH13 Creepy Denver International Airport very hyper clear GH13 footage p1

Thanks! I'll have to have a look at SPUN. I've been going through the old Twilight Zone series from the 1960's. Since almost every show deals with a person in strange circumstances, paranoia etc, There's a lot of fascinating camerawork to depict their mind states. The stories were well written too.

LOOOOOVE Twilight Zone.. the just recently remastered it to HD blu-ray too! It's a WHOLE new experience like that.

If you like Twilight Zone you will REALLY enjoy a very RARE movie from Jim Henson called "THE CUBE" that is now in the public domain. I have it up on my site
under the Video Library or video on demand. I tried to link it here but for some reason the video tags don't like livestream files.

I was at the original Showscan demos with 70mm 60fps.

I remember being intrigued, nay excited, reading about Showscan. At the time I was a visual effects fan-geek and so Douglas Trumbull was a bit of a hero (Blade Runner, etc). Sad and ironic that his ultimate project looked like Doctor Who video, as that was the laughable standard of British TV visuals at the time of the likes of Close Encounters and ST:TMP.

I was watching a Twilight Zone marathon a couple of years ago, and a few episodes in I could clearly see that they switched from film to video. I mean, the difference was like night and day--they totally lost some huge chunk of the creepy factor in the switch.

Absolutely. People must understand that MORE and faster information is not necessarily 'better', at least not when it comes to stories, especially stories told through the film making or I guess we should toss that term now since chemical film is dieing and stick to calling it the 'motion pictures' making medium which is a far more accurate term.

A funny fact about the above link I gave to Jim Henson's 'The Cube' is that a better copy was found, and it was found that it was shot on video in COLOR originally and then transferred to black and white film. I saw this copy and it TOTALLY killed the atmosphere and vibe and I completely prefer the black and white film copy - while not being as sharp, detailed, or moving as fast - it conveys the emotion Henson wanted to convey a LOT better.

Slow is better for narrative film. For some virtual reality experiments in 3D worlds, 60p 1080 and higher will be useful - but again it looks too LIVE to achieve the dreamy story telling state that 24p achieves. The Twilight Zone DID switch to video for a season to save money and it's pretty bad. It doesn't hold a candle to the one's shot on film because no matter how well the stories are told, the atmosphere gets damaged by the look of video. It just does and that's that.

There are a few nut jobs who throw out stuff like, "24p was only made to save money on film costs because that's as slow as they could go for sound to be on the optical track," and while there is SOME truth to this, it is not the ENTIRE story at all. Much study was done on various frame rates of 8, 12, 14, 15, 16, 18, 24, 26, 30, 48, 50, 60 and even FASTER and various other frame rates and shutter combos, and 24p became the standard for a variety of reasons. You can do sync sound or optical sound on the print at 12 fps or 15 fps or 16fps... it's bulls**t that you can't. 24p provided the amount of motion necessary to tell a good story without being too juddery to be distracting to audiences as long as certain basic cinematography practices were followed. Don't tell me you need MORE frames in Fantasia or Beauty & the Beast or Snow White.. you just do not. Don't tell me you need more frames in Citizen Cane. Don't tell me TERMINATOR II: JUDGEMENT day would benefit from being shot at 48 or 60fps (James Cameron thinks so).

Do it, go put TERMINATOR II into one of these TRUE MOTION or what I like to call "crappomotion" TVs that ship with it turned ON BY DEFAULT. It takes your 24p movie and 'tweens' the frames to bring it up to 60p 1080 and dare I say it is the most atrocious looking s**t I have ever seen!

Do it... it's comical how BAD it makes the movie look! Suddenly even acting that you once thought really good seems laughable because your subconscious is so shocked by the 'video look' that it connects to soap operas, news broadcasts, and swiss cheese.

To think that FASTER frame rate = better story telling is equivalent to trying to SPEED READ through your favorite book... or SPEED READING a bedtime story to a child. The whole point is to slowly linger on the details and immerse oneself in the story while the imagination plays with it as well... not shove more words or frames in as fast as you can! So increased resolution and detail? Yes! yeah! Hurrah! Bringeth it. I feel so happy to own blu-rays of films that look better than I have EVER seen them before! But faster frame rates? Only for theme park rides.

Let me not even get STARTED on Michael Bay and all the clone movies that think his style of directing is cool (if you're 6 years old and like flashy loud things). Oh woe is the the epic trashing of the Transformers franchise.
What? Fast blurry cutting extreme close ups every 10th of a second non stop with lots of huge sound FX and CGI makes a good movie? Bleeeech. So done with that. So done. Spun uses some of the same techniques - but because the story really really calls for it and it works... the paranoia of being strung out and suddenly hearing the water faucet or your car engine 10,000 times louder than it is.. ect. It works. It serves the story. Transformers is just lame showboating with a lame good verses evil plot that is so thin, a stapler wasn't needed to keep the script together.

TRANSFORMERS SCRIPT:

EXT. DAY: City street.

ROBOTS fight and go BOOM CLANK SMASH POP ZAP! Something in the distance EXPLODES while something NEAR EXPLODES while ROBOTS FIGHT some more. BOOM! Something in the MIDDLE EXPLODES. Robots FIGHT. Optimus Prime says something in a cool roboty voice as something EXPLODES.
