creating a true 16:9 DVD

Re: creating a true 16:9 DVD

True, though you'd lose the widescreen option if you decided to remain full-frame.

Re: creating a true 16:9 DVD

Why is it that when im capturing somthing that was letterboxed(not sqeezed) it is streched out in the preview screen while its being captured. Im using the same settings as i do for full-frame projects. Is it supposed to do this? Also, when you say "more of a margin for error" when shooting in 4:3, are you talking about it giving you the ability to move the image up or down to center the image? Thanks for all the info.

Re: creating a true 16:9 DVD

That is what I mean, yes.

It stretches it out in the preview because it sees the letterboxing, but it still captures it as 4:3. I thought for a time that it was capturing it as widescreen, but it's not.

Just curious what you mean by this? Couldn't you crop in post and output a widescreen file?

Re: creating a true 16:9 DVD

Meaning if you choose to stay full-frame in post, there's no reason to go to widescreen.

Re: creating a true 16:9 DVD

Ok, I know all this talk about letterboxing is getting real old but what if i crop the footage, render as a widescreen project and record to VHS. Will it be viewed simply as a letterboxed movie regardless of what kind of TV its viewed on? Would it be easier to just shoot in letterbox mode if the project is only going to be on VHS? Do I ask to manny silly questions?

Re: creating a true 16:9 DVD

OK i finally got it. My mistake was that I didnt setup my project with the widescreen template... and for some reason, Vegas interpreted my exported video's from AE into square pixels, so i had to change the settings on each clip to .9091 NTSC DV. Now my only problem is that there are two thick black bars on the right and left of my footage... how do i get rid of them??

Re: creating a true 16:9 DVD

If it's 4:3 footage in a widescreen project, that will happen. You need to crop, export as widescreen, then re-import.

But you don't actually have to do that. You can work in a 4:3 project, crop it, and export as widescreen -- then DVD Architect will do the rest when you bring the footage into it -- THEN you want it to be a Widescreen project.
